We flew out to DL last year. We had a great time, We have always wanted to drive cross country. MapQuest says it takes 38 hrs to drive. Some friends said that it could be done in 34 hrs has anyone done this trip before.

WOW, and I thought 20 was bad enough. Have a safe one.

Wow, The drive from Virginia to Florida is pretty exhausting, I cant imagine doing it to SoCal. I'd only do it if we were moving down there! (To live in Southern California once again!:wizard: )

We drove from Ventura to Williamsburg 3 years ago. It was a great trip. Saw lots of neat stuff. I can't remember where we stopped, but it took us four days, but we took our time, too. We took I-40 most of the way, then picked up I-81 through Virginia. We stopped in Oklahoma City at the Federal Building Memorial, at Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo and the Natural Bridge in Virginia. I had a 6-year old, a 12 year-old and a 13 year old with me. And no dvd players!! BTW, Ventura is about 90 minutes north of DL.

If you do this, you need to do it slowly enough to see the country you're passing through!

If you take the northern route, see Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Salt Lake City and San Francisco. If you take the southern route, see Santa Fe and the Grand Canyon. If you take the central route, visit Denver and spend some time in the Rockies before heading down to Las Vegas.

With airfares as cheap as they are these days, there's no good reason to drive unless you're going to stop along the way and enjoy the journey! I'd say give yourself at least a week if not 10 days!

We originally had planned to drive this summer from Ohio and I believe it would be about 36 hours. This was when I started planning our tip last summer and couldn't find airfare for less than $600 each. But I patiently waited and got it for $250. That being said, if you are not going to see the sights on the way, I would fly. What we are doing to see other sites is to fly into Las Vegas, drive to Lake Tahoe and stay for a week (visit Va City, Yosemite, Reno, Bodie) then drive to San Diego, Disneyland then back to Las Vegas with a side trip from there to the Grand Canyon.

However, a long road trip still seems like fun to me!
