Drive or fly from Atlanta?

My DF and I are trying to decide if we should drive or fly for an upcoming trip. WDW is only about 6-7 hours away from Atlanta (depending on who is driving  ) and our biggest concern is time, not money. See we have leased cars that are WAY over on mileage, so it would probably cost the same in the end if we fly or drive. My hesitation to fly though is I know how busy ATL can get with delayed flights, getting there early, etc. Would you fly or drive?

Thanks :)

Well, we drive from IL, so to me driving from Atlanta is SO close. But, if you're worried about charges for driving your leased car so far (Im not familiar w/leasing) could you maybe see if you could get a good deal to rent a car? Then you could drive, maybe for cheaper then both other options?

For a 6-7 hour trip, I would definitely drive. When you consider the time that the flight will take including getting to the airport 2 hours early, the flight, and the time to get out of the Orlando airport, it will probably add up to at least 5-6 hours. So the drive will only take 1-2 hours more and you will have much more flexibility and freedom.

Look around for a cheap car rental and drive that down if you are worried about the mileage on your cars. The bonus is that you then have a car if you need it while you are at the world. And Donaldis#1 is right - you'll end up spending at least 4 hours travelling by plane without delays - almost as much as driving and could be less if there are delays.

Thanks guys :thumbsup2 We did not even consider renting a car! That seems like the best idea. We're looking into that right now!

We drove from Clemson to Charlotte and flew to Disney in Febh 2006. We are doing that same thing this coming January too.

Forget about Atlanta! It is too much trouble. Charlotte has direct flights and is easy to get in and out of.

We travelled via plane and did not even rent a car in Florida. We took one cab ride one evening, but rode the disney buses the rest of the 8 day vacation.

We had 2 children with us too - ages 4 and 10. It was so much fun we are booking the next one for late January!

Good luck and have fun! :)

Forgot to mention that Allegiant Air is getting ready to start service at GSP airport - less than 45 minutes from you probably. They are offering $99 round trip tickets to Orlando!

This is a full size jet and round trip, non-stop price too. It does not take you to the airport where they offer the WDW Disney Express, BUT you can get a limo/car for less than $150 round trip...or rent a car if you think you need one while at Disney.

We have driven to Floriday from Clemson 2 times before and flying from Greenville or Charlotte is so much easier and nicer!

I have driven twice with my DH and two DD's and it does eat up some time. If time is your concern and you are living in Atlanta, drive 2 hours to Birmingham and catch a cheap flight out. We did this when Southwest offered $39 each way, it was very easy and Birmingham airport is easy to navigate. Also consider Chattanooga because Allegiant Air is flying to Sanford/Orlando and is 1 hour and half away from Atlanta.

We always drive. We leave around 8am and are there and checked in late afternoon and go to Down Town and roam around. We stay in one of the all stars for 1 night. Then on the way home we went to the parks all day and drove most of the night home. That way we dont miss any park time.
We also did priceline and got a minivan for 100.00 for the week.
