Hello again - my DH and I are having a bit of a disagreement..I know he's only saying it bc he means well and wants me to get the most out of the parks and he wants me to be safe since I'll be alone, but I wanted him to be able to read some info from people who have experience at DL...so here's the situation...

I'm coming in on the 18th of July and will be renting a car at John Wayne Airport and driving to the hotel (I'm def going to relax and nap before I begin my adventure)...I plan on staying at Motel 6 (formerly Red Roof Inn) and the distance is only about 1/2 mile, so I told DH that I was going to walk back and forth - he said that I should drive the car and park in DL parking - I think walking will be fine, but he think's it's too far.

For those who have been to DL (and maybe the same hotel) what would you do - drive and park or just walk it???

We have stayed off site at HOJO's not as far but still off site. It was me and dd 6. No problem walking back and forth felt very safe.

From what I understand from Trip Advisors, for $3 there is a shuttle. Best of both worlds.

Shuttle operates daily to Disneyland at a nominal charge

I would NEVER drive. We've stayed at several different hotels across the street, and at no time have I ever felt unsafe - or alone! There are ALWAYS people walking in and out, so you are never completely alone!

Have fun!

For me personally if my DW wanted to do a solo trip I would have no qualms about the hotels right there on Harbor - up to HoJo's and down to the corner at Katella. Outside of that I would start to be a little more concerned because the number of people on the sidewalks back and forth to DLR starts to drop off. But the area on the DLR block feels very safe to me from 6AM until after midnight when people are walking there.

And I agree with the other post that driving is the worst choice you could make. If walking is out because of safety concerns then do a shuttle or taxi.

Here's a map to give you perspective. If you drove, you'd have to drive all the way around to the opposite side of DL to get to the parking structure (it's near the Anaheim Sheraton) and then take a tram from there to the park entrance.

I think the walk would be fine.
