Drinking Water Filter?

We're not used to the Florida water, and find it really awful to drink. We'd like to have some kind of filter system so we can drink and cook with the water. Does anyone have a filter for their drinking water in their RV? Would a PUR or Brita filter get the sulfur-y taste and smell out?

Thanks :)

I don't recall a sulfur-y smell/taste in the Disney water, but we do use a filter for all the water that enters our RV. There are a great number of types with a great number of prices. It just depends on what you want to spend. Different filters are for different purposes...some take out sediment, some smell. some chemical impurities, some for all of the above.

I know what you mean about the taste of Florida water. We went to a sporting goods store and bought a water bottle with abuilt in filter and it made a big difference in the taste. We just put it in our backpack and take it in the parks.

I have tried various methods for improving the campground water. The first attempt was installing one of those canister filters in front of the water line going into the trailer. That didn't make any difference at all on the taste. Then we added a PUR filter to the faucet. It worked for taste, but the water flow was extremely slow. We ended up using a Brita pitcher for a while, and that was OK - you just had to plan ahead (keep the pitcher full so you always had drinking water ready). Last season though, I decided to install a drinking water faucet next to the sink - one that plumbs into the water line (like this one from Camping World: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/culligan-rv-ez-3-undersink-water-filter-kit-with-faucet/47903. That has worked great, and I highly recommend it. Whether we are on camp water or using the tank and pump, the pressure is fine from that tap and the water tastes and smells great. It was a very easy install. I drilled a hole into the counter top next to the sink, inserted the faucet, attached the lines to the filter, and it was ready to use.

We double filter, a whole house canister (carbon taste & odor) on the incoming hose and a Brita at the sink. Haven't had any flow issues, been working fine for years.

We just use a pur filter on the kitchen sink. The whole unit filters are expensive and I really don't care if the water in the toilet or shower has a bad taste or not.

We do the same thing, but I must admit I'm a bottle water drinking when camping. I can take it with me and since in the summer we spend a lot of time at FW it is more convenient. I usually add a flavor package because I'm not a fan of any plain water.

It's not so much the taste and odor in the shower it's the rust we've seen collected on the filter from CG's that use galvanized risers. The carbon whole house takes care of that as well. Cost for most cartridges is around $8.00 and they last a whole season since they're good for 15,000 gal.

We used an inline water filter for the incoming water to the camper and also had a drinking water faucet at the sink that was also filtered. It was perfect. My kids only complaint was that the water from the faucet wasn't always as cold as they wanted it. So, we would fill their own bottles from the drinking water faucet and keep them in the fridge.
