Not to sound like a boozehound, but...

What are the "acceptable" parameters of drinking on board?

I read about people bringing cases of booze, and those who are wanting to remain totally abstinent. I know this isn't a party cruise like oh, what is there, Princess, or Carnival????

But I don't normally "drink" because of my responsibilities, but it sure would be nice not to give a hoot and maybe, perhaps, get a little loopy on this trip? Would I be totally frowned on and talked about? Would I be warmly welcomed as in "ah geez, it's nice to relax for once, isn't it?"

Flame away if you wish. I truly want honest responses cause I really would like to feel comfortable onboard?:teeth:

Hey it's your cruise, the only rule i ever set myself whether drinking or not is to remember that it's other peoples holiday too and i wouldn't want to make them feel uncomfortable or not enjoy their holiday, and i expect the same courtesy back, however if you want to get a little loopy i think it's fine, but if you want to get hammered and jump naked in the pool then i guess it wouldn't be a good idea :jester:

While it isn't a party cruise, there is a lot of drinking on board. CMs wander around with the drink of the day (something fruity, usually, that you'd need to ingest a LOT of to get hammered, unless you were a complete teatotaler). The prominade lounge serves great martini's. And you may not be encouraged, but are at least offered, to participate in the wine program (and if two people can drink a whole bottle of wine without getting a little looped - I haven't met them).

As to frowned upon or warmly welcomed - it probably depends on who you are with. The only other guest who were in a position to disappove of our alcohol intake were our tablemates (who were drinking a little, too). Unless you make a scene, I doubt anyone will be either warm or cold to the idea (except the waiter who is getting tips).

No flames here, I say drink away, especially after 9:00 p.m. The bars are kid free. If you start getting loud and obnoxious and bumping into children and such then you may reconsider. If you just want to loosen up and have a good time, no worries. Like said above drinks are everywhere and they are good. Find a good bartender, take care of them early and they will take good care of you. We found Lourdes and Joval and they were great all week. You will be fine.

We had Amanda from Australia on the Wonder.

She was at the Adult beach on CC too.

Hope she is there for our next Cruise, Mousefest 2004.

I have specific rules for myself for drinking on the Magic.........1) Bloody Mary while watching ship dock at port from our verandah...2) All excursions MUST have Miller Lite available...3) ALWAYS have 20oz. mug available for a refill.....LOL Relax it's a vacation........Diversions is a great place to go and have a few cold ones. The "adult pool" also is a GREAT place. Our servers at dinner brought me a "wine bucket" with 4 miller lites on ice every night for our dinner.......as long as you stay in controll no one will say anything........ENJOY!!!!!!!!!1

What are the prices like? For one of the drinks of the day? For a martini? For a beer or glass of wine?

I've seen men walking around with their refillable beer mug when I was heading up to get coffee in the morning. It may be a Disney ship but it's your vacation. Remember you most likely will never see these people again. Don't worry what others think, enjoy yourself and drink responsibly.

If I remember correctly.... Drink of the day was $3.50, regular frozen drinks were about $5.00-$5.50, beers were about $3.50 for domestics.... not sure about wine, but think it was about $6.00 or so per glass. They do have specials to purchase a bottle at the beginning of the cruise and have it at dinner each night.

Some drinks are listed on the menus on dcl's web site. I believe my martini was around $6. I found most alcohol on the ship to be fairly reasonably priced - a little cheaper than WDW, about on par with a local upscale bar. Wine by the glass seemed pricey, but I think DCL carries some fairly upscale wines.

The drink of the day was always a bargain. You can check Dave's site for Navigators to check them out - they are always listed.

Never saw anyone drunk on board. I found DCL to be an early to bed, early to rise cruise. At 10 at night I found very few people in the clubs. Enough to have a good time, but not as crowded as my HAL, NCL and RCCL cruises.

Dh and I are not big drinkers but do enjoy the occational glass of wine or beer. When we are on the ship we get the wine package, have one drink of the day and I can't help but get a pina colota on CC. We never saw anyone outright drunk. But it really is up to you and what you can handle. I would never get drunk because I would hate the idea of wasting the day in bed with a hangover. Besides can you imagine how unpleasent it would be to have a hangover if the ship was rocking too much!
