Drink Around The World

Since there are so many other mini-meets during DIScon, I'm beginning to wonder whether or not we should bother trying to fit a large group DATW into the rest of the fun. I'd much rather make certain that we have time for the Adventurers Club on Pleasure Island (if I have to choose). So here's your chance to help with the decision. No fair making up any other choices.

By popular opinion, DATW on Thursday evening will happen as planned.

John, I voted for skipping it since it's on Thursday. It just doesn't 'seem right' on Thursday. Also, I had planned to skip it anyways because I'm going to go to Fantasmic and see the Osbourne Lights that evening.

I'm not opposed to doing it in smaller groups and/or making it more of a DATR thing.

I was wondering about a meet of say doing World Showcase, like shopping and/or shows and rides, maybe on Sat afternoon. I did not vote, because we were not planning on doing DATW anyway.

I don't know what to say, really. DATW has always been a part of any DIS group get together. But it doesn't seem to be working too well in the spot it's in.
IMHO, whoever wants to DATW on Thursday can do so and the others can try to fit it in at another time. To tell the truth, it can be held before or after DIS-CON, too, if anyone is so inclined.

In spite of all efforts to NOT have it on Friday before the Illuminations dessert party - that is still the most logical time. If the official meet is cancelled on Thursday, you will probably have some informal groups doing it on the 6th.

OH come on! How can we have DIS con without DATW..... It was the most popular "mini" meet there! Plus all the new people who are coming, I am sure they would like to experience it once!

I am a little confused here. I am looking over the schedule at the ugly shoe place and the PI meet is on friday, how does DATW on thursday interfere with that or was something changed and I am missing it?

I'd just like to be able to do everything and I was really looking forward to the DATW being a newbie. I also really want to do Adventurers Club on Friday so I'm right with you there.

You could do DATW on Friday before Illuminations Desserts and then go to Adventurers from there......would that be an option?

I so want to stick with everyone at MGM on Thursday.

Whats up DATW is part of Dis Con.

Now here is what I dont understand how does this interfere wiht PI. I do see fantasmic meet is the same time. Sometimes you have to choose either you want to do DATW or Fantasmic period. If one of the hosts feels they dont want to Host it I will be more then happy to take over as the host.

So like I said if there is a problem with getting a Host I will do it. But I think it needs to happen

Ok obviously DATW is a go! I will certainly stand right next to my good drinking buddy JayPd if there is a problem hosting it!
I think we should hear from SSB before we decide that though as he is the traditional host of DATW and besides, he owns the sponge bob!
I don't see where it is written that we can't have overlapping meets, people can just make their choice between DATW and the Osborne Lights thingie!

Don't worry, it won't be cancelled. But there's always that possibilty that there will be other unofficial DATW's on other nights. You never know.
That's right, Alex. Steve offered his Fantasmic meet as an alternative for those that weren't interested in DATW or that absolutely wanted to see Fantasmic as a group. It's entirely possible the Fantasmic group can catch up with DATW at the end like we did last year. That way we got to do it all!!

I agree with this, it makes more sense, IMHO. Just thinking outloud here, please bear with me:

Currently, Thursday's schedule has the event breakfast, then the thrill ride tour, followed by DATW(or Fantasmic) , and then Karaoke at Kimono's. That's a very full day...

...on the other hand, Friday has some mini-meets early in the day and then nothing until the Illuminations dessert party.

DATW has always been on a Friday night in the past, it seems it would fit much better in this slot this time as well, and more people could attend (ie: those going to Fantasmic on Thursday and those arriving for the weekend only) or am I missing something ??

It seems that I cannot get this right no matter what. Jaypd is correct. SideshowBob has always been the host of this event. And Pandy is correct that the three previous DATW's have been held on Friday. I just posted the announcement of the event and have been on the receiving end of a bunch of grief ever since. My primary reason for attending DIScon 2001 was to attend DATW. It is one of my favorite events. And Alex is correct when he mentions that DATW II was the most popular mini-meet. We had over 70 DISers participate last year. And I realize that not everyone was there when we left the Rose and Crown at 6PM.

Thanks to the hard work of Mr. J. Cricket, we have a really nice button designed for DATW IV. I've made twice as many as I did for last year's event in anticipation of a larger turnout. I'll be there Thursday at 6PM right alongside Jaypd and Alex. I made that committment to Barb and I'll stick with it. I never intended to be the host of this event. Just it's biggest cheerleader. I know that we'll have a great time and I look forward to the groups that will join us later in the evening. I hope that twice as many people show up this year as did last year.

Now...now...WebmasterAlex, and Moderator Jaypd, and Moderator Marla Hellwig...there was never a discussion of cancelling Drink Around The World. We have even been talking about DATR (Drink Around The Resorts)...lol, and a Bailey's Irish Creame DIS mini-meet, and even a drink around the pool at the Swan/Dolhin.

As Pandy Paws just said, DATW was held on Fridays, but this year Illuminations dessert could only be scheduled on Friday.

Moderator Mackey Mouse and Webmaster CathyCanada and Moderator glo suggested that it would be a not so good idea for a bunch of us to show up at Illuminations drunk as a skunk...lol.

Also, back in February, SideshowBob had mentioned a Friday DATW (Drink Around The World). But that was way before the Illuminations Dessert Party was planned for Friday.

I may be mistaken, but SideshowBob has not mentioned nor volunteered, yet; to host the "Thursday", DATW (Drink Around The World), yet. He might have to work Friday morning.

Towncrier was nice enough to post a thread to get interest in DATW (Drink Around The World) some time ago, since no one else had. Several DISers have volunteered to host many DIS mini-meets and my Dear Friend, Towncrier, has volunteered to do a lot of stuff. Thank you, Towncrier. And I've got your back, buddy. I remember you making and paying for all those DATW buttons and giving them away out of the goodness of your heart. This DATW was on Friday when we first talked about this. And I remember you always being the cheerleader and help keep the DATW idea going even though no one else volunteered to do so.

Thank you, Moderator Jaypd for volunteering to host the DATW. I would have loved to be there at the beginning of DATW, but I really want to see the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights with some friends, too.

I hope to catch up with you later around 8:30 P.M. at the American pavillion for DATW.

I hope that SideshowBob can help you host the DATW on Thursday, Moderator Jaypd. But maybe he can't during the working week. I know that I couldn't do that and work the next day...lol.

Now I was drinking a lot at DATW and Kimonos last year, and I don't drink much...lol. Did I get out of line? Did I embarrass anyone? I don't remember a single person acting bad.

I just remember a lot of laughing and a lot of smiles and a very big headache the next day...lol.

By the way, pardon my spelling or rambling...I'm still on percadan pain medication, etc., after some mouth surgery. I wake up in pain...take my medication...feel very drowzy and sleepy after an hour...go to sleep again...wake up after three hours...yadah...yadah...yadah. It's a vicious cycle. Good night. Ray

Thanks Jay. We needed someone to host DATW on Thursday night. This is perfect. Now there is no need to cancel. We'll just have to pick and choose between DATW and Fantasmic/Osbourne Lights. I'm sure that those of us who are staying at MGM can catch up to the DATW bunch for the last round. And then we'll head off to Kimono's for more fun!
