dress issues (getting it off my chest)

OK here is the pun with the subject line and my little rant and cry for help. We (DF and I) have been browsing dresses online, scary that he is into the wedding details huh . I was interested in what he thought were nice and ugly. I was actually surprised that we like the same styles but there is a catch.
The catch is as you see in the sig is I am top heavy. I have lost 20 pounds since that pic and I am still a 36 DD. I have never been smaller than a 34 DD when I weighed 135lb when I was in the army (I miss those days, the cost of having a child ahhh ). Well I see as my DF does is the ones we that are strapless. My fear and worry is the moving part with the dress on or having the over flap of ****s out of the dress. I am Puerto Rican so you know I'll be dancing and shaking my butt but I also don't want the twins bouncing up and down and to and fro like basketballs. I also don't want to have to be always adjusting myself from exposing what I got.
I know I could use duck tape or double sided tape but I have never been comfortable. I guess I have to resign myself to use a dress with straps. I don't know if any of you have seen an email what was sent around of a bride on her wedding day having a picture taken when she was releasing a dove opps the twins are out saying hi. These are the nightmares I have after I have been looking for dresses that day.

I kinda can relate to what you are going thru
right now im only a 36c & i find it hard to find stuff that fits my chest,,wierd huh

I think if the dress is altered right for your bustline, it should feel comfortable, snug & stay put...i think the photo you keep flashing back to was a dress that was to large in the top area

I would consult with a tailor/seamstress to see what their thougts are

dont give up your dream just yet

I can totally relate, I am a size 40E thats UK sizing dont know if thats any different from U.S. you do get some quite good strapless bras in larger sizes now and I agree with above that the email was probably a dress that was too big, if you had your dress well fitted then you should be ok. and there are a lot of nice dresses with straps too.

Depending on the structure of the dress you may be able to wear strapless. I was surprised that my dress fit best wearing nothing and I'm a 36C. The dress never moved and I wore it 3 times (intimate wedding, MK shoot and home reception with lots of dancing).

36 DD here I am having the same issue. I am wearing a halter but it does not hold the dress up, the dress sits on my hips so it fits like a strapless. I have three different strapless bras and NONE of them work with the dress. The dress cuts low under my arms so the bras show. AND not to be to graphic they push (well I have lost 70lbs over the past three years) any extra skin and back flab right over the top of the dress~ I had such a break down this past weekend. My mother instisted I try the dress with out a bra. The horror I have never not worn a bra. I pay extra for bathing suits with an underwire built in! No bra!?!? But I tried it and it looks GREAT So I danced around for awhile to make sure the sisters would not pop out and they stayed. So no bra for me. I will probably use a little body tape to make sure nobody goes anywhere.

Who ever does your alterations will be able to make the dress tight enough so the sisters stay put for the day! They will also build cups into the dress for you (wish I had done that..too late now) Don't worry you will find the dress that makes you feel beautiful and comfortable!

I'm also top heavy and I wore a strapless gown. I didn't think it was going to work so I had straps sown in so I could put them on at the reception but I didn't need them at all. I never had a problem because they fitted the dress to me perfectly. My DH and I danced all night and I never had any issues at all. I did wear a strapless bra and it worked great but I wish I had tried it without one because I think it made me look even bigger on top.

I have the opposite problem. I'm bigger in my hip/thigh area and the top portion of gowns/dresses are always huge on me. I haven't started looking yet (well, I have online, but not at stores - wedding is May 2008), but I know that there will be major alterations because of this.

I am really top heavy aswell and the woman in the shop where I got my dress (which is strapless) told me that I should get one with a straight line across the top and not one that dips at the cleavage. I did and it looks great and it makes sure that I wont be spilling over the top, because it rests on the top 'shelf' of my chest! It works wonders! Ah the tricks of the trade

Another 38dd here. I found that dresses that scooped down didn't work with me as I was too concerned with finding a bra/corset that would work at keeping the girls in place. My dress had spagetti straps and a straight line across the chest. It was actually a two-piece dress, the top was like a corset with a lace up back. It fit really well as I could sinch it down if needed. I could have worn either a strapless bra or corset with it, I went with the corset for the extra hold.

So sorry to hear that you are having issues.. I am having issues of wanting more cleavage.. sad to say I am a 32A... I know I joke around saying that I shop for my bikini tops in the Toddler Section I am having cups built in for me. SInce you are doing strapless can you get the bodice section to be on Tight so the sisters dont move... I am PR/Cuban but I have the Jennifer Lopez bottom... lol... GL to you I guess we all have something me dont like about our selves..

It's all about having the right bra! there's a great store called Lady Grace - it's local to MA but they are also online. The bra I got kept the girls in place. I'm a DD and those puppies didn't move.

Also, the right dress - strapless or not - will not push them up and out (BAD) but down and in (GOOD).

OH, and one thing my great-aunt-in-law did for me when she was doing my alterations was sew several hooks around the top of my dress on the inside that I hooked on to the top of the bra. At first I thought it would pull everything down, but all it did was give me insurance that my bra woudln't show!

Same problem here! I started out looking for something with short sleeves and ended up with a strapless....I was certain I would never do that! The one I chose has built in cups and "boning" in the sides and laces up (corset style). The girls don't move and for the first time in my life--no bra!!
