I had been looking on theknot.com at dresses a few weeks back and had picked out 6 I truly liked. The first option, not my dream dress but I came to adore it. Very untraditional but 1950sish. Now, on the website it was listed as a wedding gown, it's a Jessica McClintock so when I went to her website they list it as a bridesmaid dress at a smash deal price ($163). Will anyone give me their opinion of the dress? I'm having a small intimate and hoping the fiance wears his dress grean uniform (ARMY) so I thought it'd be darling, but if it looks too bridesmaidish I'll rethink my choice. I hope this link works. Also, I thought I had heard that when one buys a dress you should buy 1-2 sizes bigger then what you currently wear, is this true?

Thanks!

I think it's darling!

You would have to look at the size chart for Jessica McClintock and then have yourself measured. If you don't know how to correctly measure yourself, I would suggest asking a seamstress so that you get the best results. Then, buy the dress that best matches your measurements. Alterations may still need to be made but they should be minimal compared to if you just bought a random size. Hope that helped somehow.

I think the dress is darling and will go great w/ a dress uniform. As for the size it varies by designer. I have a few JM dresses and they are pretty true to size. My Davids bridal dress was 1 size bigger than my normal size. There is a JM store in a mall near my home check the web there may be one near you. Good luck!

It is absolutely darling and would look wonderful for a intimate "army" wedding. It would actually seem quite old 50s war movie ish... without the war.

Jessica McClintock is one of my fav designers. Her dresses run fairly true to size. Try visiting a botique though because they are very helpful in getting the right size.

I agree. That dress is adorable and would go fantastic with your Husband-to-be's uniform! I thought the same thing as Davids-Coco about it being very 1950 war movie-ish when I saw it. You should be able to find a Jessica McClinton size chart on the web so you can order the proper size. When my dress was ordered, it was actually ordered 1 size smaller then I normally wear!

Very pretty dress, and I agree with everyone it will look perfect with DF in his uniform, or any other style of attire. It will adapt well to whatever your final decisions are. I would try to locate a store to try on a few of their dresses, they do run true to size but every designer is a little different so you never know for sure what your true size is in their stuff. Many of the larger department stores carry JM dresses, and there are many stand alone JM stores. My MOH got her wedding dress (which was very similar to yours and a JM) at a discount bridal shop. What a bargain!

I definately agree. The dress is nice, but make sure you love it. I wasn't sure if that's what you meant by "not my dream dress." I bought a dress that I sort of liked, was inexpensive, and my family and friends loved. Three months later I decided there was no way I was going to "settle" for my wedding dress. I decided to buy my dream dress and sell the original on ebay. So as long as you truly LOVE the dress, then buy it! Congrats!

After looking at dresses yesterday, nothing compared to that type of dress unfortunately no one around me carries JM so I called a town 45 mins away and they carry her but need my measurements to see if they can order it. Sure hope I can get it!

I adore the dress! I think it is great! I am sure you will look beautiful in it! About sizing...I would say check with JM. I would think her sizes run true to size (unlike many bridal boutiques). Good luck!

This weekend we were out shopping and passed a David's Bridal store. If you have one in your area you might look there, they had a dress that very closely resembled your pick, but it was displayed in a color rather than white. Maybe if they are close and have it in stock you can try it on, and then order it if you like the look and fit?

I love the dress. I have a very good friend that is also wearing that dress for her wedding. She is doing the 50's style, as well. As for the size, it runs pretty true to normal dress size. I tried on a couple and they were close, however, I tried on dresses all 1 size larger than normal. One thing to ALWAYS keep in mind...you can almost ALWAYS take a dress in but almost NEVER add too it! Congrats though! Be sure to keep us posted, I would love to see pics of how the wedding turned out.

Oh my gosh I love, love, LOVE that dress!!! I wish I had the body type to wear it. It would be perfect for an intimate wedding! I bet you'll look beautiful in it :D

Wow, I can't believe someone else is wearing that dress! How exciting! I get measured for it the day before Thanksgiving and then it will be ordered! However, the fiance is too excited to wear a tuxedo so no 50s war-era pics, darn!

You can still make it 50's though, even without the army gear! Hope you post pics! My friend's should be getting her dress pretty soon. I will try and keep you posted on how it looks! Best of luck. And remember to enjoy the engagement. Too many people try to hurry it by. But you will be married for the rest of your lives...this is the only time you two will be engaged. Congrats again! :love2:
