Dress for Dinner (child)

I was wondering what the dress code for dinner for a 2 1/2 year old boy? Are dress shorts and polo type shirt fine or dress pants and polo shirt only acceptable for a child too? We are planning on taking him with us every night to dinner except our Palo's night.

The one night our 4 1/2 year old ate with us, he wore dress shorts and a collared shirt. There were several little boys in similar attire at our seating.

Little boys look so cute in dockers-like shorts and polo type shirts. However, make sure DS is comfortable. If it's a fight to get him in the attire, don't bother. Happy kids are better than well-dressed kids any day of the week. DS9 is required (by me) to wear khaki colored zip-offs and a shirt other than a t-shirt. I allow the sneakers and after dinner he zips off the bottom legs of his pants. For 2 hours that's our middle-ground. I want a happy family, no grumbling for us.
