Dress Codes?

Interested in trying Citrico's, when I made the adr it said "dress shorts" on the ok list. It will be august, so wondering if it really is ok to wear nice shorts and and nice shirt. Or, will we be uncomfortable? {it will be august} Thanks,

Dress shorts will be fine. My husband wears them with a collared shirt. I usually wear capris or skirt with dressy flip flops.

It is acceptable and you will see some there dressed in dress shorts and collared shirts. This is what DH wears.
Wnen we are going to a Signature restaurant in the evening, we go back to the room and freshen up first. I will usually wear dress capri's, a fancy blouse and fancy sandals. I prefer to not go in park (even dressy) clothes. I am more comfortable and enjoy the ambience more. A Signature dinner is a step above for usl

Just don't be suprised or upset when you see men in cargo style shorts at Citrico's. The dress shorts business is but a suggested way of dressing--what they prefer you wear.

You won't be out of place. People don't follow the dress code so you'll see people in shorts and tee shirts, and others somewhat "dressed up". The only time we tried Bistro de Paris a family was there with children, and everyone was in shorts! I usually wear a casual dress with sandals and DBF wears dockers and a sport shirt, cause for us, anytime we are at WDW w/o the kids every night is date night!

Only you can decide what will make you feel comfortable. I'm with Pakey. My husband and I always dress the way she described. We don't have special park clothes so we're always ready for fairly nice restaurants.

I wore nice shorts and a nice v neck T-shirt there and I didnt feel out of place at all. There was one gentlemen who even wore a kangol hat. It was neat so it fit the atmosphere. I think its more of a dress guide than a dress code.

That's exactly what it is-a guide. There are very few articles of clothing actually on the prohibited list--one of which is a hat on men

I would add that probably 75% or so of people we see at Signature restaurants dress somewhere or other within the suggested guidelines.
The other 25% don't!!

Because we spend so little time at the Parks, it's easy for us to change into what we usually wear (slacks and a polo for me, jeans and a short sleeve top for Mrs. U.) And we have a car, making it easy to get from OKW to wherever we want to go.

The reason I asked, not that we won't "freshen up" and put on something clean > but I hate to drag capri's or a dress to florida when we are there for 2 weeks, luggage is going to be packed. And if I don't really need it I prefer to wear something that might cross over to another use too.

Last year we went to california grille for the first time, and dragged clothes, but we say lots of people in "dressy shorts / shirts" and even a couple in jean shorts and t's. Didn't seem to affect anyone. But, that was the only place I wore that dress and really don't care to bring something again.

When we were at Citrico's last week, most were dressed nicely: women in sundresses or capri's .. men in dress shorts or khaki's, polo's, collared shirts.
No one (at least that I have seen) really cares how others are dressed and as long as you are within dress code (not wearing a bathing suit), you will be fine with the restaurant as well. It's really a matter of preference.
When we go to eat at night we really enjoy being showered and dressed "nicer" since that is part of the fun for us going to some of the nicer restaurants at night. I'll wear dress shorts with a nicer top or a sundress (with dressier flip flops), while DF wears dress shorts and a polo (with a boat shoe). We usually then head into the parks after our meals.

i think how comfortable people feel tends to also depend on what they're use to/where they're from. florida will never be like nyc. it's almost always hot here and we have more of a beachy mind set even when we no longer live right on the beach. for example, i grew up in orlando and even our high school had a surf team...we just don't really dress up here especially at the tourist venues. dress how you and your party are comfortable and don't worry about everyone else. unless you come in totally nasty disney will happily seat you, serve you and take your money.

Seems to me the "must nots" are the most important rules. You can forget about wearing torn clothing(even if they are expensive designer jeans with holes), hats for guys, tank tops for guys, swimwear, and clothing with offensive sayings. I think if you avoid those few verboten items, you could get away with just about anything else(except at Victoria and Alberts).Also it'd be nice if you weren't still wet from the pool.

I wonder how dress code questions keep coming up? Over and over it's stated that nearly anything is actually acceptable (and although some Dis'ers always disagree, we're not the arbitors). V&A's is the one and only exception to a practice that basically allows anyone who has the money to get service as long as you're not really disgusting.

They come up because some people are aware that what is appropriate and what is acceptable may not be exactly the same thing.

•Dress Code Guidelines: (what is appropriate)
Men: Khakis, slacks, jeans, dress shorts, collared shirts. Sport coats are optional.
Ladies: Capris, skirts, dresses, jeans, dress shorts.

Not permitted in dining room: Tank tops, swimwear, hats for gentleman, cut offs, or torn clothing. While T-shirts are now allowed, the policy remains that T-shirts with offensive language or graphics are not acceptable. (what is unacceptable)

Of course, all sorts of questions that could be easily answered with a minimum of research come up here, and I for one am happy to be of help when I can.

I was worried about this on my last trip, but i have to tell you i wore nice shorts and a collared shirt and so did my dad. We always would freshen up after a day at the parks in order to go eat at a Signature restaurant. There were people under dressed and those that were over dressed. We ate at Narcoossee's and to be honest i wouldn't walk in there in a T-Shirt and Cargo Shorts but that is just me. They wont stop you but i just feel more comfortable dressing appropriately and would never wear a hat to dinner.
