Do you know if airlines have dress codes? I was just talking with a girl I work with who was denied a seat on a flight in coach for wearing shorts and sandals. The supervisor she was speaking to told her it was their dress code policy that shorts have to come to the knee. I told her I would fight it all the way up the chain if it was me, but she is not sure she wants to pursue it further. She had to take another flight the next day. How ridiculous.

I never heard of this before. If Delta had this 'rule' when I went to Miami in July, they would have denied boarding to 3/4 of the people on the plane. :rotfl:

I would have told them that they need to show me the policy IN WRITING. But honestly, I think they can toss you off the plane for any reason that they want to.

That doesn't sound logical to me.. Think of the number of women/girls who fly in and out of Orlando every day - in shorts (some of which are extremely skimpy) - and flip flops.. :confused3

Did she say what airline this was and where she was flying out of?

It was Continental out of S. Florida, maybe Miami? She is a sweet young girl, had never flown alone before and I think was too intimidated to make a fuss (like I would have).

I just had a thought. My DH has a relative who is a pilot for a major airline. His immediate family flies free, on standby. THEY do have to follow a dress code because they are representing the airline to some extent.

Maybe your co-worker was flying standby on a friends and family of an airline employee type basis, and that is why she was told about this 'dress code'???

Never heard of this. Did she not have her luggage so she could change?

Personally, airline seats are gross! I always wear pants or capris even in summer as I don't want any skin to touch them. It can also be chilly when are 30,000 feet in the air.

Was she in an Arabic country or using an Arabic run airline? They have dress codes for women other places in the world.

I think a dress code stating no tank tops for men would be great! :lmao:

I could have sworn that I heard this happening before. Apparently, a woman was dressed too scantily, and was told to cover up. She did, and was able to board. And I think a guy had a tshirt with something obscene on it, and was told to change or he couldn't board.

If it was just regular shorts and sandals, that would be ridiculous to not let them on board.

No, it was a regular ticket. She was a ticketed passenger.

There was a huge news story a few years ago about a very attractive young woman that was removed from the plane for wearing a very short skirt. I think the issue was that it wasn't covering much when she sat down. May have been SW airlines? I am sure someone will remember more than I do. She was all over the news and talk shows.

ETA: Here is the story http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20641687/

I do remember that. Didn't SW eventually apologize or offer vouchers or something?

Yes.

But shorts wouldn't be as risque as a short skirt. It is unfortunate that she won't push it, but I can understand that.

I remember the girl with the short skirt, and I also remember a different story, years earlier, about a couple who was not allowed to board a flight to Europe because they were wearing track suits.

WHAT???!! :scared1:

I could understand if she wasn't wearing shorts, shoes or a shirt, but come ON...

Seriously, how many women under 30, or even 40 wear shorts at or below the knee? (besides myself, LMAO, I wear DH's)
