our xmas party is at the country club, my issue is i am wearing a black wool ivy cap (the kind of hat that the top snaps to the bill) as part of my "outfit". is it ok in this day and age to keep it on all nite? appreciate your opinions.

Not sure the rules of the club, but at the club I work at hats must be removed when entering the clubhouse. I'd probably skip the hat.

Growing up I played golf and we weren't allowed to wear hats or visors inside the clubhouse (private golf course). You might want to call the place and ask what their dress code is. I know at the one I played at denim was a no no as were shorts that were shorter then knee length and no bare shoulders for women so a lot of courses can be really strict about what they allow in. If it's a clubhouse at a public course, they tend to be a little more lenient.

All of the Country Clubs I've been to (which totals 2, both for weddings) have had their dress code posted at the door. You can call ahead and ask if a hat is allowed indoors.

Also keep in mind that often times the dress code is for the club house only and when in a private rented room you don't have to adhere to them. If that is the case you can remove the hat at arrival and put it back on once you are not in the club house.

lets forget the "country club" part for a minute, that might be changing the answers. lets just say it is a party at a restaurant. for example people wear hats at all the table service restaurants that i have been in at WDW. are they being rude? or has the times changed to allow. thanks for all the answers.

In general, hats indoors don't bother me. But at a restaurant, I would consider a hat to be rude.

Technically if you ask Miss Manners, yes, they are being rude. If you're in the military you never wear your "cover" indoors. I always take my hats off when I go indoors. Just because others are doing it doesn't make it proper.

WDW is not the epitome of social correctness. Just because you witness certain behaviors there does not make them acceptable.

In this country, a man in a building, particularly a restuarant, who is wearing a hat, is either rude, or uncouth.

I hate the nannying of people so I could care less what you wear or where you wear it. I just worry about myself. If you want to show up with only pasties and a thong at church I wouldn't care one bit.

You are an adult, wear what you like.

Hats at the dinner table are still uncouth.

I agree with what (most) of the others have said. IMO a hat on indoors is rude. A hat on when eating is especially rude.

While generally that may be the case (I don't really care much for arbitrary and capricious rules like this, that have no foundation in health or safety), do keep in mind that others wearing hats indoors may have reasons for which there is no good reason to challenge them. One of our church's recurring musicians wears a hat indoors all the time now, ever since her successful kidney transplant surgery. I don't know her very well, nor do I know the specifics, but there is no reason not to assume that she's wearing a hat indoors now for some important reason, perhaps related to her recent medical concerns.

OK, the image of the hat was bad enough (I don't like hats;)), but how in the world am I going to get this picture out of my mind?!:lmao:

Most of the country clubs I have been to lately don't enforce the no hat rule much any more--BUT, I think at a Christmas party wearing a hat is rude, leave it at home.

;)Are you a guy?

Seriously-how many guys figure out an outfit with a matching cap?

I'm still trying to figure out what kind of cap is being described. Im picturing something that would have ear flaps but buttons on top of the head when not being used.:confused3
