dress code for kids

I was wondering what the dress code for children is in the restaurants - for dinner.

Good question. I'd like to know this also, especially for formal/semi-formal nights.

Depends on the ages of the children. There is no "special" dress code for children, but obviously for infants you're not going to put them in a suit!

For the most part, little girls seem to love wearing sundresses w/ pretty sandals. Little boys are usually fine in polo type shirts with long pants. If they are not yet school age, I think they're fine in dressy shorts outfits for little boys. On the 7 day, I saw everything from tuxes to dockers and polos on boys. I'd say the majority at least were wearing a dress shirt on formal night.

No one is going to prevent you from going into the dining room, but the norm is long pants for boys school age and higher, and capris or sundresses for girls.

Hope this helps.

I mainly had my girls wear sundresses on casual nights. Semi formal night they wore last years Easter dresses, and Formal night they wore this years Easter dress. Lots of little girls wore princess outfits. I think I even saw a couple of pirates in my dining room! Best bet, let them be comfortable. Hope this helps.

We were recently on the 7 day Western cruise. For formal night I ordered a tux for my 12 year old son and had it delivered to the stateroom. It fit perfectly. It's rare you can get really nice dress pictures so it was worth every cent. That's the one thing I'm 100% glad we did.

The first night he wore slacks and a casual button up shirt. He hated it. From that point on I had him wear dress shorts and a nice polo style shirt and he was much more comfortable and fit in with no problem. Even the pictures I took at the table looked great because the shorts don't show in the pics.

Here's a hint. If you are in the late seating you will almost NEVER see a photographer. I was pretty upset by this. We had to call every single day and request someone show up. Finally on the last day the girl came to our table with an attitude and snapped one picture. I was really disappointed in the photography company Shutters. They were always way understaffed creating long lines and time & time again they wouldn't put out all the pictures they took. I had to go have them search their proofs several times until they found them.

I suggest having them take the formal pictures and you take the rest yourself. It will save you a load of dough and tons of frustration.

They will be wearing a dress up shirt, and a pair of dress pants....

I personally can't see spending the money on a tux for them, or myself. I will have a suit for that night....

I would rather save the money from a tux rental, and use it for an excursion w/ the kids.

Pardon my ignorance- first time cruiser- but is it the same dress code for the 4 day? I know there is no formal night but should I plan on capris and sundresses for DD and DD friend?

Thanks!
Laura

My boys will be 3 and 5 at the time of the cruise. I wouldn't dream of renting tuxes for them. :) I know where most of their food ends up. I'm hesitant even to bring nice shirts. Thank you for the info. I'll probably stock up on some cute but comfortable button down shirts and pants before the cruise. I'll start looking for good deals now so I won't be upset if they get stained.

We are doing the 7 day eastern in August, my dd age 11 has a few nice dresses, what you would wear to a wedding, with nice shoes (thank you target!!!), my ds age 4, I will either buy or rent a tux for him and my DH on the formal night, it will be fun! I consider it all part of the "cruise experience!" You can find tuxes on e-bay for little boys for under $40.00! I figure what the heck. The tux rental for DH is $85.00 he has shoes. Considering what you have already paid for the trip, this in nothing.

On our last cruise both DD (age 6 and 8 at the time) wore capris on every night except for formal and semi-formal nights and they looked fine. They wore cardigans to dinner every night because it was so chilly in the dining rooms. My oldest is a total tomboy and it was difficult enough getting her to wear a long skirt for the formal nights. I bought her 4 pairs of capris for our cruise next week and she will never wear them again. Hopefully my younger DD will wear them in a couple of years. I think that capris for girls look as nice as sundresses.

*phew* I thought it was just me, and I thought it was because my kids are past the "cutie pie" stage...but if we hadn't lined up for photos, or the kids hadn't done the character things, we'd not have had ANY photos from them other than one that was done in a rush up by the pool, and only because I asked. My dad and brother used to be cruise photographers, so I thought it was me applying unrealistic expectations because of how I knew my dad and brother worked. I was terribly disappointed in them, both in how often we saw them around and in how they ran the concession (but that's more because i"m totally used to a more orderly, logical presentation than the free for all we saw - we couldn't find at least 3 photos i know were taken!!)

Sorry, off topic, I know...

On topic, my son got alot of use out of his "pants that zip off into shorts" - not the nylon ones, but almost like khakis...he'd use the shorts during the day with a tshirt, and then provided they weren't too dirty or wrinkled looking, zip on the bottoms and put on a polo shirt. For formal and semiformal, he did the long sleeve oxford button down with a tie...I didn't push a jacket on him. DD is more into dressing up so she took advantage of it whenever she could. She has a nice skort that she added a fancy top to, and shoes instead of flip flops, and that was good for one of the non-formal nights too. :)

I wish I could figure out how to post a picture on here so I could show you how great they looked during formal night.
