I understand that there is a no shorts at night dress code on the ships, but I was wondering if that really applies to children as well?

Mine at 4 and 7 year old girls. I'm doing a mental check of their closets and trying to see if they will have enough stuff to wear. I'm sure they have some cute shortie outfits, but I would hate to break the rules.

On our 4 day my son wore khaki's to dinner sometimes. I mainly put our 2 dd's in sun dresses with light sweaters over top. The restaurants get pretty cool. I did notice tons I mean tons of men wearing jean shorts and t-shirts. It totally did not bother me or my family. I know some people really get offended. Whatever you decide, you will have a great time!

I put my 3 girls in either a sundress or capris and that was perfect! I would think a cute short outfit for the 4 year old would be fine but would personally not dress the 7 year old in shorts. JMHO.

Hi Beth E.

We just got off the Magic this past Saturday. My DD7 wore sun dresses and my 5 year old son wore slacks and shirts to dinner and a suit on formal night. I honestly didn't see too many kids or adults in shorts at dinner. I did bring capri pants for my daughter but she wanted to wear the dresses.

Both my DD's wore sundresses to dinner each night. My DH andDS wore a suit on the more formal nights, then just khakis and a nice shirt for the rest. I also didn't see too many people in shorts or dressed inappropriately when we cruised.

Beth...Don't forget about skorts for the girls. They are also good for casual wear.

One problem we had for my 5 year old DD was that she froze every night at dinner! So, don't forget sweaters or jackets!

Although it is traditional on cruise ships to maintain the dress code throughout the evening, most people on DCL only "dress" for dinner then change when they have finished. On DCL, they only specify their dress code for the restaurants. I happen to be one of those people who wishes others would comply. It adds to the special atmosphere of the evening. I am also one of those who changes into comfy clothes right after dinner.:) I think with kids, as long as they look well put together, no one will pay attention to the specifics of their clothing.

I'm sure I'll have enough stuff for the kids to wear for the 7 night cruise -- that is baring any growth spurts!
