Hi;
I am travelling on the Dec. 5-9 cruise. With all 5 of my k's. My question is: I have a 17 year old DS who I wouldn't be able to get into a suit or even a jacket if his life depended on it. Hence, he has none. He does have a couple nice pants and 2-3 polo type shirts. Will he be dressed appropriately for dinners? I',m especially worried about Triton/Lumieres. I would let him eat elsewhere, but we are travelling with 10 other family members and dinners are important. Plus, I need help with my 2 -18 month olds. Any info would be appreciated. Mary

My DSs are 16 1/2 and 13 1/2, and they wore suits and ties on our recent cruise. If your DS doesn't own a suit, how about just getting him a dress shirt and a "cool" tie? They have ties out now for any and every kind of interest. Or maybe get him a black dress shirt and black tie?? My older DS likes the all-black look sometimes, and I think an older teen might like that better than the traditional white dress shirt.

This is just my opinion, I'm sure other people will give their opinions too. Have a great cruise!! :)

Edited to add: I just saw that you're on a 4-night cruise. There is no "formal" night on the 4-night cruises, so you might be able to get away with the nice pants and polo shirt! Maybe some other Wonder cruisers can give their input :)

My 17 year old son didnt own a suit when I cruised in Jan this year so he wore a blousy shirt with a tie and a pair of khakis. He looked very nice. All of the other nights he wore slacks and polo shirts.

Nice pants and the polo shirts will be just fine for your son in the dining room.

The little ones I wouldn't worry too much about. If they have something fancy then let them wear it. If not as long as they are clean and neat then that really is all that matters.

Thanks for all your info. He actually does have a nice shirt and a tie, he had to wear one at his cousins Confirmation, I forgot. Or rather he forgot to remind me while I was packing for him. I love the Dis Boards, all of you guys are so helpful. With travelling so soon, I have lots more questions. Thanks again, Mary

My DS was 16 ( a month shy of 17) on our cruise. We brought a sport coat, but found out on board he had outgrown it. So he just wore a dress shirt and tie and was just fine.

You are going on a four night.

Don't even fight the tie. Only about 40% of the grown men in the dining room will have on a tie.

Little kids (to two or so) are fine in anything that looks clean and wasn't obviously handed down from six previous cousins and siblings.

For the 4 night cruise..nobody needs dress clothes..really. Don't take them..just a waste of time. Unless you and hubby are going to have an adult dinner in Palo..then you will need them..but the kids definately don't..as none of them are old enough for Palo.

Take casual clothes for dinners, khaki's and polo shirts for the guys, pants/capris and nice tops or sundresses for the girls.

Enjoy!

Hi Mom of 5 K's,

Thanks for this post. I was also wondering the same thing. My 5 kids range from 2 - 17 yrs, and I really don't want to pack too many clothes if I don't have to, mainly dressy clothes. I'm trying to limit our baggages.

Don't sweat it. Slacks and a Polo shirt will be fine for ALL diners on the Wonder - even Tritons.

If he has black sneakers/tennis shoes those will work for footwear in the restaurants. If he doesn't have that, try getting him some Tevas and wear dark socks and once again he's set. Only the fashion police will notice or care!!
