Dreams granted only to families?

I was speculating that the chances of winning a dream are higher if you're there in a family of four (maybe five). Obviously, this is true for the castle stay because they won't award it to only a couple. I know a lot of it is luck but it seems like families would be more likely to be granted wishes. My mom and I went to Disneyland at least fifteen times last year (we're obsessed XD) and every single person we saw with either the dream fastpasses or mickey ears were an average (whitebread) family of four. I thought this was a little strange...

my DH and i went to disney in sept last year and were chosen to be the grand marshels of the stars and motor cars parade. I was thinking the same way you were when we went so when the CM asked us to do it i was VERY suprised! That was the only thing we won though. When we were there with our dd in Feb, we didn't win anything. We are going again in Dec. and i am keeping my fingers crossed that at least she wins something. it would make for an extra special trip even though i'm not expecting it.

I know my two friends in WDW right now just got dream fastpasses. And my teen son and I got dream fastpasses at DLR last year. I don't think they only give stuff away to families.

It is a random process selected by computer, it absolutely does not matter how many are with you. For the castle stay they select one person who was at the right place at the right time. Unless that person or one of their relatives works at Disney, they win period. They can take anyone who is with them (although only so many can fit in the castle). So whether your are alone, with one person or 20, it doesn't matter! The most likely things to win are dream fastpasses and dream mickey ears and they give those out 100 to 250 at a time to whomever is there at the place the computer has determined.

The reason that it *SEEMS* only whitebread family of 4 wins everything is because they are the majority of people who visit WDW. You have just as much of a chance at winning the castle stay as anyone else. Young, old, black, white, kids, no kids, none of it matters for the castle stay. It is a game that doesn't discriminate.

According the the rules it's open to ANY eligible guest, and since it is a sweepstakes and is probably actually covered under some law, if it was proved that a person that was 'supposed' to win the prize got passed up because they werent a 'family' that wouldnt be good. It would be like saying I couldnt win because I'm a guy..

I actually had the same question the other day but as stated before, it's computer determined. Families naturally have a better chance to win because there are the majority of the admittance there and because there are simply more people in their "group" to better the odds. Also, couples or singles might not be interested in the rides the computer targets (Dumbo, etc) but a family with younger ones will.

The computer does not target certain rides. I won on RRC and Mission:Space. All rides are in the mix and some common areas as well (Innoventions, AK animal trails, ect..).

The castle stay is not just awarded to families. There is someone on this board whose neighbors won and they were an older couple without kids with them! Anyone can win it!

That would be me...my lucky neighbors here in Celebration won it. They are an older couple who happened to be in the right seat on the Great Movie Ride. It cracks me up when people insist they KNOW the castle is only awarded to families and NEVER to couples...I always wonder if they know that because their uncle's cousin's brother's dog groomer, who used to be a cast member who was a ride operator on Spiderman at the Animal Kingdom told them so.

I agree...it's supposed to be random and I hope it stays that way. If they had to do some kind of discrimination rule, it wouldn't be random anymore.

I can assure you - -- and agree with the previous posters --- that it is a completely trustworthy, random, computer generated process. It absolutely has nothing to do with families, ages, races, or anything else. It is strictly based on being in "the right place at the right time". It is a sweepstakes that is governed by laws and has to be run accordingly.

Part of what makes this such a truly rewarding campaign is that no amount of money or influence can gain you access to these prizes. These 'dreams' are the most fair and just things I can think of. As CMO I have had the pleasure of working with the Dream Squad in each of the 6 main U.S. Disney Parks and I can say with absolute certainty that the "Year of a Million Dreams" winners are all randomly selected in a completely fair and unbiased process.



(sorry if that came off a bit strong! I'm just really passionate about this stuff and I LOVE that Disney came up with a sweepstakes like this that allows SO many people to be winners every day!)

I'm sorry you've never won anything! Hopefully you still had a magical time on your trips! Keep in mind, with the average annual attendance figures for the Disney Parks, there are still relatively high odds to winning. Yes, there are a million dreams, but there are tens of millions of guests!

That would be me...my lucky neighbors here in Celebration won it. They are an older couple who happened to be in the right seat on the Great Movie Ride. It cracks me up when people insist they KNOW the castle is only awarded to families and NEVER to couples...I always wonder if they know that because their uncle's cousin's brother's dog groomer, who used to be a cast member who was a ride operator on Spiderman at the Animal Kingdom told them so.

I knew there was someone on here who knew a couple who won it that didnt have kids with them! How lucky of them!!! I would have been at their house wanting to hear all about it and to see all their pictures!

My mom and I (she's 44, I'm 22), won dream fastpasses at AK after taking a picture with Minnie Mouse in Camp Mickey. =) It wasn't targeted to families, just people who were in that spot at that time.

I saw a pic and posting on some board where a single guy had won the castle stay. Interesting to see one person riding down main street in the car.
