Yet more pictures coming right up!

Of course I took a picture of the lodge. Actually this is the only one I took. Although the architecture was very impressive, I had trouble peeling my eyes from the animals!

After two savannas full of animals, wonderful animal information shared by friendly guides and many shared ahhhs with the other anniversary couple it was time for another very special part of the safari...the sundowner. We stopped right out in the savanna and they popped up a table and served us figs, nuts, jerky and some very delicious juice. As we ate we watched the sun start to set and the animals turned the tables on us and came closer to us to investigate! Here you see dh and I with a giraffe peering over our shoulder!

Here's a shot of our three amazingly friendly safari guides. They were all so sweet, informative, knowledgeable and fun!

After our sundowner we slowly drove back to the backstage area and were escorted back to Jiko where a culinary feast was about to unfold!

When we arrived at Jiko we were instantly seated right next to the windows in a prime spot. Our waiter for the evening introduced himself and got our drinks for us. We had such a nice conversation over dinner. Full of humor, laughter and smiles. Dh and I really enjoyed our dinner mates.

We also really enjoyed having Jamal (one of the Jiko chefs) bring us each course and explain it to us. He was so attentive and willing to answer questions for us. He also told us we were one of his favorite groups ever since we laughed so much and really got into enjoying the food. He called us the fun group and that's really what it was...FUN!

The meal did come with wine pairings however having a baby on board I skipped them.

Here's a run down of our meal (which was served family style):
Appetizers
-Artichoke and Peppadew Flatbread - Made with Midnight Moon goat cheese, arugula, and cilantro-yogurt drizzle.
-Kalamata Olive Flat Bread - Made with four cheeses and Laura Chenel's soft goat cheese.
-Lamb "Patis" - Pulled lamb rolled in phyllo with mint-cilantro chutney
-Maize & Sweet Potato "Tamales" - Herbed maize pudding and truffled sweet potato mash with shredded goat cheese in corn husk boat.
-Kalamata olive hummus, Durban Tikka Masala, and Malay spinach-lentil dip, with Lentil papadam, whole wheal lavosh, and Flax seed Naan bread

My favorite was the lamb and I loved the olive hummus.

Here is a picture of our main course before we all dug in:
AKL07095.jpg

Our main dishes were:
-Some sort of breaded fish served with tasty veggies. It was good.
-Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon - Served with Macaroni & cheese and red wine sauce. A delicious dish!
-Chermoula-Roasted, Tanglewood Chicken - Served with red skin mashed potatoes, preserved lemons, kalamata olives, roasted garlic, herbs, and harissa. This was my favorite dish. Right down to the mashed potatoes with lemons. It's a Moroccan dish. Jamal (our chef) was from Morocco. Before this meal I never would have guessed that I would like Moroccan food but now I know that I LOVE IT!!

I wish I could have taken Jamal home with us!!
AKL07094.jpg

To finish up we of course had dessert:
-White chocolate mousse pyramid with roasted banana and pineapple, banana-pineapple salad, and tropical fruit salad.
-Pistachio Creme Brulee - With a Chocolate Layered Bottom.
-a chocolate cheesecake *dh loved this one*

*all descriptions were taken directly from a copy of the menu unless the food was unlisted and then I tried my best*

And then sadly, it was over. It was a wonderful meal full of laughter with newly found friends, wonderful food, great service and amazing new tastes!

Just the safari and meal would have been a dream night...but dh and I had one more stop before heading back to Simba's Clubhouse to pick up the kids. We were off to DTD to see Cirque de Soilel's La Nouba!

The show was beyond words. It was funny, it made you think and it left your mouth hanging open in awe. I don't really know how to describe it any better then that. If you have the chance to go and see La Nouba, go! The music, the sights. The show is just amazing. I think I will leave it at that. With one final word...GO!

We hopped in a cab after the show and hurried back to pick up the boys. All three of them were very happy when we picked them up and I think they would have happily stayed even longer. However, it was late and time for all of us to hit the sack in preparation for another wonderful Disney day. As I drifted off to sleep the animals, tastes of Jiko, amazing husband, laughter, the excited smiles as our boys told us about Bush Camp and Simba's Clubhouse and the sights of La Nouba blended together to make my last thoughts of the night some of my happiest ever!

I wouldn't change a minute of this amazing evening!!

What a great evening. The safari sounds fantastic, dinner at Jiko sounds and looks delicious!

I have always wanted to to see Cirque Du Soleil and La Nouba may be my chance. I will see how that goes once our WDW schedule has been finalized for the next trip. Maybe I can fit it in.

Your anniversary celebration sounds simply wonderful! :goodvibes I'm curious about the safari too, is it only available to concierge guests?

Lifelong Dreamer's story reminded me of a giraffe encounter I had as well. We have a wild animal park about 45 minutes from where we live and they have buckets of food that you can buy to feed the animals. Well, they tell you that you shouldn't try to feed the giraffes but DH didn't listen. One walked right up to the car so DH held the bucket out for him and with one long swoop of his tounge around the bucket all the food was gone :lmao: and he left behind a ton of giraffe slobber too - ICK!

Great updates! Looking forward to hearing about your meal at Jiko, it's my favorite WDW restaurant. :)
You know, I didn't really think I would like any of the dishes besides the filet with mac and cheese. However, in reality, it was all so delicious and the combination of flavors both the familiar ones used in new ways and the ones that had never passed my lips before was a HUGE TREAT and I really enjoyed the entire meal!

I have to read and moderate so many reports, but I went back to look at your other TR's and now I remember your family, your boys have gotten so big.
They have grown. :sad2: I wish I could pause the growth for a few years until I get prepared for them to get even bigger. I am really enjoying the years I have being mom to little ones. It's the best thing I have ever done in my entire life!

Yay! :cheer2: You've arrived at AKL! The rooms look so nice, and your balcony views are amazing!! Bush Camp sounds like fun, I bet my boys would love it. Looking forward to hearing about your evening.
You don't even have to be staying at AKL to reserve Bush Camp...so if you have a free Saturday afternoon at Disney...;)

I can't get to sleep tonight (I have a cold and I am about ready to drug myself to sleep with some Nyquil) so I decided that if I can't sleep then there is nothing else to do but DIS! So I logged on and what do I see but your wonderful update. Those pictures are fantastic. What a great and unique experience. Is this safari something that anybody could book or do you need to be staying concierge?

I also once was close enough to pet a giraffe. When I was a kid my family went to a park here in Canada called the African Lion Safari or something like that. Anyways at this park you could take a "safari" ride through the "savanna" The driver of the truck stopped near some giraffes. One came over brought its head down to look into the truck and proceeded to drool on my arm. YUCK!:rotfl: Anyways your story about the giraffe being close brought back that memory so I though I would share. BEWARE of drooling giraffes!:rotfl2:
I sure hope you feel better soon. Colds are so not fun! And that is an understated way of putting it.

YES, anyone staying at AKL can book the Wanyama Sunset Safari. You don't have to be staying at the concierge level. To book the Sunrise Safari where they take you to Animal Kingdom itself you have to be staying at AKL concierge level. To book the special safari at the Animal Kingdom that operates at assorted times during the day you have to be a concierge level guest at a Disney resort. We were going to do both of those as well...but neither of them was rec. for pregnant women, so we skipped them this year, which just gives me another reason to return!! :) :rolleyes1 :thumbsup2

La Nouba was just beyond description good. It was fast, never a lull in the action. It was a circus with a storyline, live music, dramatic over tones and so much more. It was a dream come to life.

ICK giraffe goo! I can tell you with the length of that tounge I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere near the amount of slobber that was likely to come out!! Both of your stories just cracked me up! I am happy the giraffes just got an up close and personal look at us instead of taste testing! :rotfl: :rotfl2:

WOW! What an anniversary! AMAZING! You guys really know how to celebrate!
It was amazing! It was simply one of the best nights of my life. Full of so many wonderful things and shared with my very best friend, dh. It was :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

What a great trip report, your pics are fabulous! I read your TR from last year and thought it was great! I can't wait for more!

Oh, and to momoftriplets, I just read your trip report, and my DH and I were there on our honeymoon in 2005 when you were there! It was so exciting to read about the different things you did and wondering what I was doing at that time.

Thanks for reading it!!!! Did you do a TR, too? It would be fun to compare notes.

Sorry for the hijack, Jay!

Day 3- A day spent enjoying AKL!

Dawn found me waiting for it. Sitting out on the balcony, wrapped up in a robe, sipping a chocolate milk we had brought back the day before from the lounge. Of course nobody else in the family was up...but I really enjoyed the solitude of the moment, the peaceful time all to myself.

The pictures above aren't the best (or even near it) photography wise, however, they almost convey the peaceful dawn at AKL, the browsing animals and the beauty of the time I spent sitting on the balcony during the wee hours of the morning, so I wanted to share them.

After my little photo shoot/zen moment/chocolate milk break I headed back inside, climbed back into bed and fell soundly back asleep until I heard the kids stirring in the next room (which lucky for me, wasn't until nearly 9:15 AM).

Once everyone had shaken the cobwebs from their heads and gotten cleaned up we headed up to the 6th floor lounge. We loved breakfast in the lounge! Their was an assortment of pastries, bagels, breads, cereals, oatmeal and fruits. We loaded up our plates and sat down to drink in the sights and sounds of the lounge. I cannot stress just how beautiful the lounge is. How relaxing it is to sit a spell there. Or how friendly the cast members who worked there were. They were friendly, yet unobtrusive. They were positioned at desks in one corner of the lobby. If you approached they were amazingly friendly and helpful. And more then a few times they circulated throughout the lounge chatting with guests. I was very happy with our AKL club experience! Outstanding is a good way to put it!

But back to that morning. We sat eating breakfast and soaking up the lodge for a good long while. We talked with the boys about what they had done before and shared with them all we had done.

Finally at about 10:45 we headed down to our first bead activity. Along the way I had to (yep it is an addiction, snapping photos of just about everything at WDW) stop and take some flower pictures.

Disney07084.jpg

Flowers aside, the landscape work at AKL is beautiful! I enjoyed our short stroll to Arusha rock.

**Bead activities are great! I loved this AKL offering! It was great fun for our family!**

Up first was animal tracking at Arusha Rock. Once we got there "Stitch" was first to find the hidden Mickey on the giraffe. He was very proud of himself!

Disney07086.jpg

Hidden Mickey hunting aside, it was time to track some animals. First they got a bit of instruction from one of the wonderful savanna guides at AKL. **AKL has some of the friendliest cast members in all of WDW!!**
Disney07089.jpg

One of them had the job of scanner and held the tracking device, sweeping it back and forth. The second job was the listener. He had to wear the tracking receiver and listen for beeps and say if they were getting louder or quieter. The third member of our little tracking party was the spotter who carried the binoculars. Once a location had been pinpointed it was the job of the spotter to search for the hidden animal (in this case, safari Donald Duck). The guides were so very nice (and I bet it helped that nobody was waiting) so they let our boys do it three times so that each of them would have a turn at each position.

After Donald had been "tracked" three times the boys each received their first bead. Two of the boys chose an elephant bead and one a rhino bead. The guides helped us get them on the string and showed us how to tie them tightly on.

Disney07093.jpg

After our animal tracking adventure, it seemed like a great time to cool off with a swim in the oasis known as the AKL pool!

We made our way back to our rooms to change and we had a whole host of fun friends waiting for us!!

The mousekeeper was just finishing up as we walked in and she was just as excited to watch the boys find her creations as they were to see them. She asked us if we would mind if she walked back into the room with us...when we said sure, she did and her smile was as big as the sun when the boys started going happy, crazy nuts over all of the towel animals!

She was the nicest mousekeeper ever! She told us that she had seen three little boys leaving that morning and wanted them to come back to a room full of magic. ONLY at Disney does the housekeeping staff get excited to watch you walk back into your room and see their handiwork! Not only had she taken the time to make the room magical but she had made it squeaky clean! Here is a picture we snapped of her and the boys. **Once again, it does bear repeating that AKL has the very cream of the crop as far as employees go!**

Wonderful TR!! The Safari sounds amazing!! I am really enjoying all the beautiful pictures of AKL!!! Can't wait for more!!

Loving it, Jay! Our room was directly in front of that little pond to your far right. I'll bet we were balcony sitting at the same time, lol. My favorite time of day!

All I can say, is...... WOW!!!!!

Loved everything... the lodge, the view, the safari..... everything.... (I'm still kicking myself for not making it to AKL last time we were in WDW. I SOOOOO wanted to see that resort. Next time, huh?)

I've been to 2 different Cirque de Soliel shows. Both were fabulous, so I can just imagine what LaNouba was like.

Thanks so much for the updates (& the pixie dust). :goodvibes

Can't wait for the next installment.

I really enjoy reading your TR, and your boys are so cute!! I especially love the pic. of them sleeping (truley a Kodak moment!)
Thanks and I'm anxious for more!

Wow, I can't believe how much the boys have grown since I read your last report! This vacation must have been the most amazing two weeks ever. I feel like I am reading about my very own dream vacation :cloud9:

I can't wait to see and hear more about your adventures.

Oh, and I'll be sure to keep you baby and your father in my prayers :grouphug:

Wow!!
Sounds like a fantastic way to spend your anniversary!!!
It really was. I have had the good fortune to celebrate more then one anniversary at WDW. This one in particular though will always hold a very special place in my heart. It truly was a most magical evening!!

What a great trip report, your pics are fabulous! I read your TR from last year and thought it was great! I can't wait for more!
Thanks...I have been working on the picture thing (thanks MOUSETRIPPER for the hints and tips!!). I still have trouble knowing what settings to use sometimes or moving when I should stay still...but I am slowly catching on! ;) And I am so touched that you still remember last year's trip report. :grouphug:

You really struck gold with that mousekeeper. What a nice lady!
She is one of the most amazing Disney employees we have ever run across. She was VERY good at her primary job (keeping the room clean) and amazing at personifying Disney magic. She makes my list of most outstanding WDW cast members!

Wonderful TR!! The Safari sounds amazing!! I am really enjoying all the beautiful pictures of AKL!!! Can't wait for more!!
If you ever have the chance, don't pass it up...take the safari!!

Loving it, Jay! Our room was directly in front of that little pond to your far right. I'll bet we were balcony sitting at the same time, lol. My favorite time of day!
I have to admit something...after this morning, I never again made it up at the crack of dawn. :rolleyes1

Do go and visit AKL! It's a bit off the beaten path but worth the extra effort to stop by! It's an architectural gem and so much more besides! I bet the triplets would love it!!

I really enjoy reading your TR, and your boys are so cute!! I especially love the pic. of them sleeping (truley a Kodak moment!)
Thanks and I'm anxious for more!
Why thank you! I loved that picture of them sleeping!! Pretty soon they will be no way to stack them all in one bed!! Where does time go?! The funny thing is the room had a pull out couch but as dh and I were getting it ready for "Stitch" (the youngest one) he had climbed up and fell asleep smack dab in the middle of his brothers. We didn't have the heart to move him...so I just snapped a picture instead! ;)

THANK YOU so very much for the prayers. I know they make such a big difference!

I am wowed already and you are only on day 2!
Sitting down to write this I was in a bit of awe myself at just how blessed we really were. The vacation was one I will always treasure!!

Just loving this! The boys have grown so much since your last TR and they are so adorable. Looking forward to more!
