We were first time cruisers, me, DH and DS 4. Overall, wonderful trip. Ship is beautiful. Some of the downsides we had heard about were not problems for us: Disney music in the hallways didn't bother us, service was very good, the walkie talkie phones worked fine. When we arrived at the airport in Orlando we checked in for Disney's Magical Express transfers and the cruise right there, so we avoided the check in lines in the cruise terminal. One of the staff gave us a tip that registering for the kids club had much shorter lines in the terminal, so we did that. You still have to get your photo taken and wait in line to actually enter the ship. Food was fantastic in all three main restaurants and the buffets and fast food. Our room was great, plenty of storage and not cramped at all. We couldn't figure out how to set our alarm clock and our room steward had it done right away. Our first day in port, Nassau, no one could go ashore right away because of a fire very near the dock. The captain came on the radio several times giving us safety updates, and people were allowed ashore once the fire was under control. Castaway Cay was wonderful, and they really make it very easy supplying you with extra towels in a mesh carry bag, a map of the island, kids club right on the island for the day, lunch and drinks readily available, and it seemed to us like plenty of chairs and loungers at the beach. Our pirate night was that night, with Pirate themed activities on deck and fireworks at 10:30. The day at sea there was plenty to do, between shopping, activities on deck, movies and shows. We actually ran out of time, and didn't see any shows or ride the Aqua Duck. We heard people say the Aqua Duck was fun but our weather was low 70s and a little windy and they said they were a little chilly. Our final night we were in Animators Palate at a table one row out from the wall and Crush did stop and talk to a lady at our table, it was amazing how real the conversation was, he recognized she had a camera taking pictures and posed for her, he asked her name and what she did that day and used those in the conversation. We were all trying to figure out how they do it. The final day they tried to steer people away from the buffet breakfast and into the resataurants, I suppose to speed things up and make sure everyone could eat and get off the ship by 9. Getting off the ship was much much speedier than getting on. Customs forms and luggage service was arranged the day before. The line was constantly in motion, no waiting on the ship, at luggage claim or in customs, and it was striaght out to ground transportation, super smooth.

The best parts for us: DS loved the kids club, he constantly asked to go down there. He also loved the yellow Mickey water slide. Planty of kid frendly food, mac & cheese, chicken strips burgers fries etc. Our servers brought his plate first every night so he didn't drive us crazy with fidgeting while we waited. We loved the beach day, low 70s with a breeze was perfect, and we did get some Disney sand toys (you can pre order or buy at the gift shop on the island) and DS was content to play in the sand all day. What we didn't care for: we had second dining, we would do main next time. We thought the volume was a little too loud up on deck when they had live music and the movies on the jumbotron. The photo prices seem very high to us, 19.95 for one 8x10 print. What we would have done differently: not fly on the date of sailing. Heard lots of people recommending this but our flight choices didn't allow it. It really is a good idea though, because the check in and embarkation process involved waiting in lines, the mandatory drill also seems like waiting to a four year old. After being up at 4am to catch our first flight we were all dog tired.

We would do it again, and in fact we did put a deposit on the 5 night with 2 stops at Castaway Cay, if you pre-book on board you get a reduced deposit, 10% off the whole thing, in room credit, and first choice on dining times and room selection.

Thanks for the information...My question is in regards to your second dinner seating...We had main dining last oct. (our party had 2 4 yr. olds) and found we were rushed to get to dinner after our day but it was good for the kids to eat early.. Unfortunately, main seating is not available on our trip in Oct.- we are traveling with a large party so trying to get it changed will most likely not happen.. What were your issues with the late dining? What time did you finish? My dd stays up late and eats like a bird (but didn't spend too much time in kids' club so don't know if that is an option)...thank you..

Second dining is 8:30, which for our little guy is normally his bedtime. Each night we were there at least until 10, usually more like 10:15. The first night he actually fell asleep at the table. The servers were very good to get his order in first and he always had his meal before we even had our appetizer, but once he was done it was still hard for him to wait for us. We considered putting him in the kids club while we had dinner, but were afraid he would be very crabby there and just didn't feel right about handing off a potential problem. Each child is different though, if you have a night owl you might have no problems with either the dining room or the kids club at that time.

Thanks for this, great reading such a positive review, we are having our first Disney cruise and it's on the Dream this summer, can't wait! What was the reduced deposit amount for the rebook on board? I am looking at the 2012 rates and they are great but I want to wait and see if the deposit would be less on board.
Thanks!
Lesley

We put down 10%, which they quoted as half the regular required deposit.

Hello - Thank you very much for the review. We will be sailing in April with our 4 year old son. I believe we are scheduled for the 8:30 pm seating in the dining room but have been thinking about an earlier time. I believe first seating is 6:00 pm. I have reviewed the Navigators posted by other guests and it appears that the shows are 5:00, 7:00 and 9:00.

If we do the first seating for dinner do you know if there is time prior to dinner to go to either the 5:00 or 7:00 pm show. I think 9:00 pm might be too late for our son to sit through a show.

I have one other question regarding the height of the toilet and the sink in the bathrooms in the rooms. I am wondering if there are either step benches in the rooms or if we should bring one.

Thank you.

You would be OK with the 5pm show, but as dinner is 1.5-2hrs you wouldn't make 7pm in time.

For the bathrooms, two things. The heights seemed standard to me. Our 4yr old is 44" and he was OK, but he is tall for his age. The other thing is you actually step up into the bathrooms. I understand they raise the floor a little bit to accommodate the piping, so watch out for tripping in and out, especially in the dark.

I have a question for you on the kids club. I am bringing my 4 and year old on The Dream! What is the kids club? Is it free? I feel funny about dropping my 4 year old off alone- I heard its supervised but do you mind giving me some information on it? What does a 4 year old do in there? I just picture him running all around alone lol! (Yes, I am a very over protective mother!! LOL)

Thank you for your TR and info. on the Dream. We will be sailing on 3/6 and I am very interested in the Magical Express Transfer at the airport. We are flying in that morning, around 10 am and are being transfered by DCL to Port Canaveral. How did you do this or find out about it? Do you think it cut down a lot of wait time at the port?

Thanks for your information.

We were on the Wonder a few months ago with my 3 year old daughter (the only kid in our party). She had a wonderful time! They did stories, crafts, dress-up (I came in to pick her up and all the girls were in princess dresses but my daughter was wearing a Buzz Lightyear costume!) They also have computers with games and things.

Our only regret was that we didn't utilize it more, especially at dinner time. Our last night we fed her pizza and then dropped her off while we went to our late dinner - wish we had done that every night!

We were nervous too, our 4yr old has a little separation anxiety, but it worked out really well. It is free, but you have to register. You can fill out the forms online. You have to get a wristband, which you can do in the terminal right before you board, or in the ship. We did the terminal, one of the staff tipped us off that lines were shorter there than on the ship. When you drop off they scan the wristband. They advise you to carry your room phone the whole time so they can call you if there is a problem. Each child has to wash their hands before they play. There are tons of things to do, Andy's Room (Toy Story theme) was a big hit for us. There are lots of counselors who play and watch and lead dancing and games and stuff. All but one time we we ready before he was, one time they did call us and tell us he was ready for pick up. I think they are open 9am-11pm? Can't quite remember the closing time. I recommend it, it is really nice to have some alone time!

We reserved the transfers online during our reservation process, I think you can add them after too. When you get to Orlando, Disney has check in desks down by baggage claim and rental cars. You check in for the cruise and the Magical Express all in one step, so it definitely does save time at the terminal, the lines there looked wretched. The other advantage is Disney will handle your luggage straight to your stateroom. We carried on so we gave them our luggage when we got on the bus, but I think I remember reading on the DCL website that if you check bags and tell Disney which flights, they have some way, special tags maybe?, that they will collect them from baggage claim and get them on the bus and to your stateroom for you. Can't say for sure how that works, like I side, we had carry on luggage.
