My eyes are getting these lovely prounced dark circles under them since I've started losing weight. I've lost 19 lbs so far and still have another 45 or so to go. :guilty: I knew that I'd start losing the youthful look my face had when the fat started to go, but ugh, this is UGLY!

Is there anything that can be done, short of surgery, to stop this from progressing? Or I guess maybe is there a good concealer for it that anyone would like to recommend? If it makes a difference, my skin is "combination", large-ish pores, and still has a tendency to break out. Oh, and I'm 39 years old.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Well, you've sort of answered your own question. You've lost a lot of the fat that "plumped up" your eye area . Now your skin is laying directly over the veins that run underneath the eye and they show through. There is nothing to do about it.

My favorite concealer is the Sonia Kushiak concealer palatte at Target. The concealers are creamy and they cover well.

I think Bare Escentuals Well Rested is a MIRACLE concealer for the eyes and those dark cirlces you are talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am still amazed at the difference it makes on my eyes. You can put it on one eye and not the other. Then look in the mirror for the before and after difference. You will be amazed too!

I use it all around my eyes.....underneath, where the circles/bags are, and on the lids. Amazing difference, I swear!

I've lost 118lbs recently, and I can attest that those dark circles will go away with time. In the mean time, moisturize, and use concealer.

I just had to chime in on this. I bought Well Rested hoping for these results and it looked so bad on me. Now, I am in my 40s and I used Bare Minerals, but it made the under part of my eye look REALLY crinkly and old. I don't usually have that problem with concealers. I tried it a few times with a few different brushes and it just did so bad under my eye. I think I must be the only one.

What a great problem to have! Congratulations on having all of your hard work pay off! Keep it up!

Now how to fix the problem....

Not a typical solution, but I would try Arnica gel under your eyes - it really works for me, and isn't too expensive. (Arnica is a homeopathic gel used for soreness and bruising.) Try CVS, and if they don't have it then a Whole Foods will!

Good luck!

I am so sorry that you had problems with it. I have not had any issues like you mentioned. It has always been great for me!
Perhaps OP could visit her local BE Boutique, Sephora, or Ulta and try the Well Rested and see how it does on her. I would definitely suggest giving it a try!

Congratulations on the weight loss!

For under the eyes, I don't know if you mean line-like circles or the whole area under your eyes look dark. I have always had a little bit of dark line circles under my eyes. When I was young, regular concealer was fine but now that I'm older it seems that makeup settles in those creases and makes me look even older, and more wrinkly as the day goes on. For me what works is that I use a q-tip and ONLY dab in over the slightly darker lines with liquid foundation in my regular skin color. Then over that I puff on some bare minerals and bronzer on top of that.

I have noticed that many of my friends still apply their foundation like we did when we were young, and it looks horrible in the light of day because every crease looks like a cavern when makeup cakes up around it. I was doing this a while myself until I got a good look in the car mirror one day a few hours after applying the makeup. My DH kept saying the make-up made me look older and finally I knew what he meant, as I looked in the mirror all I could think was "Where did the wrinkles come from?" They weren't MY wrinkles, they were make-up wrinkles caused by my concealer, foundation & powder. Who on earth wants to pay $60 for a bottle of wrinkle enhancer?:rotfl:

Ahh, good tips here! I'm juuust about out of my "usual" makeup so I'll have to look into that Bare Escentuals stuff. I've heard a lot of good things about it.

I've always had fairly deep-set eyes; they tend to disappear when I smile  The loss of facial fat has just enhanced them embarrassingly!

And thank you so much for the congrats; I'm working REALLY hard to lose weight and it's awesome that I've found something that works for ME! :thumbsup2

I just did a search for Bare Escentuals and Bare Minerals came up with it on Sephora. I'm confused, did they change the name, are they both the same or are these different product lines within the same brand? :confused3

They are the same. I do not understand the reason why they are the same but have two different names. I know there is a reason, but I do not know it.
Sephora has it. Ulta will also if you have an Ulta nearby. Then there are Bare Escentuals Boutiques too. If you go to the store they can put it on you, like the makeover, and try it out. That is what they did at Ulta with me. I showed it to my mom when she came to visit. I put it on one eye and left the other alone. She was amazed too and we bought her some that very day. We went to the BE Boutique for her because we were going to the mall that day. They put it on her to see how it worked on her. I assume that Sephora will do the same thing. You will have to go with no eye makeup on or take it off there. The Well Rested goes on before any of my eye makeup.
Here it is on Sephora's web site: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P213227&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=5737
Also, I wanted to add that I will turn 40 years old this May. I am not sure if that makes a difference or not. My mom is using it now, and she is 65 years old.

Also, Darsa, I am so sorry that I forgot to say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope, not the only one. I love Bare Essentials, but Well Rested under my eyes looks terrible. Crinkly and old and doesn't do a good job of covering dark circles on my eyes.

I use a few things for my dark circles. First, I start with Clinique's all about eyes rich, to moisturize. Then I use Almay's bright eyes concealor. Then I use bareMineral's multi-tasking face to cover up anything I've missed. Hope this helps!:goodvibes

Are you eating lots of dairy? sometimes dairy gives one a overyeast condition. Cut back on dairy.

Congrats on your weight loss!

This thread does remind me of one of my annoyances - Nutrisystem commercials. Not only do they use Marie Osmond who, bless her heart, now looks like a freak from her plastic surgery but then they put that woman on who lost 100 pounds - and looks about 20 years older than her "before" picture.

Every time I see the commercial I think "this is supposed to be motivating?!"Gee I can either look like a plastic freak or age 20 years. :rotfl:

I've been losing as well and while the feeling is great that clothes fit better and I'm more comfortable, those "side effects" (dark circles, flabby skin) are a bit deterring!

Hang in there! Hope you find a good solution!

OP -- I wondered how quickly you lost the weight? A few years ago, I lost 35 lbs pretty quickly and I looked terrible (although, even 35 lbs lighter, I wasn't "underweight.")

As my body adjusted to my new weight though, the dark circles, etc. started to go away. It might get better on it's own.
