We bought bonine/dramamine to be on the safe side for our trip because I have read so much about it here. I am honestly not sure if any of us will feel sick from any of the rides - we don't have a problem with regular rides, car rides, air travel, etc. but I understand these rides are different so they may affect us differently.

My question is, for first timers, would you suggest we ride and see how we do first, or would you take the meds as a precaution anyway? Even though they are "less drowsy" versions, I don't want to take something I don't need just in case!

4 days!

From someone that does suffer motion sickness (car sickness, boat) I have never had the need to take anything for the rides at Universal, IOA. My sickness stems from rides that go round and round in the same pattern.

The rides that could effect me if I did them more than once - Cat in the Hat, Simpsons and MIB for the spinning at the end and HP Forbidden Journey.

I have done MIB numerous times in a row and did get queasy.

Personally, I would do them once and see how you do. However I am not one to take the motion sickness meds and not have side effects. I hear Bonine is better than Dramamine for the non - sleepy effects.

Try it and see - you'll know if you need it right away but I believe you will then have to wait a bit for the meds to kick in before riding.

Our family takes the meds. I'm the only one of us who gets motion sickness in the car, boat or plane but it only happens rarely. We take the bonine because of Spiderman, Simpsons, and a few others. I'd rather be safe than sorry on vacation.

One year my husband didn't take it (thinking he didn't really need it) and was kinda bummed cause he didn't feel so great after riding.

If you are going to take the meds, take Bonine. It is better for the non drowsy. Also....take the meds a couple days BEFORE you even leave home to see how they effect you!!! The meds don't take effect right away so waiting until right before you ride isn't going to help you.

Make sure you take your Bonine or LESS-DROWSY Dramamine well before you head to the park to make sure it has kicked in. I take it the night before and then as soon as I wake up and it does wonders.

Bonine and Less-Drowsy Dramamine are the same formulation (meclizine). Don't confuse them with the regular Dramamine which will make you very sleepy.

'Less Drowsy' Dramamine for me... Chewable 'Orange' flavored.

The 'dose' is two tablets, or the 'max dose' at least calls for two. I take one @ 7am each day I'm at USO. If we're hitting the motion simulators heavy later in the day, I'll sometimes take another around 3-4pm.

I *NEVER* take anything @WDW and there isn't a single coaster out there that gets to me, but Simpsons, Spiderman, FJ all can and will take their toll on me. There is just something about being strapped into a box and then shaken up that gets me. The rides don't affect my wife & boy however, so I take the meds to keep up with them.

Can you buy these anywhere or is just at pharmacies?

I may give them a try if I don`t need to take vertigo medication this year, I can`t take both as they are a bit similar apparently. I`m fine with coasters, it`s the simulators that get me so thought this may help a bit.

And is that what you ask for.....Bonine? Thanks :)

We have a couple of "family members" that use the meds..."Less Drowsy" formulas work great, and I, errr...our "family members" take one, very early, but with at least a small amount of food..(i.e. crackers, toast...SOMETHING).

Never had a problem...at least not since that "Cup-n-Saucer" Exorcist Movie inspired event at Astrohurled Park -(Six Flags-Houston), back in junior high daze.

There is a Walgreens right around the corner form USO that handles all of the main brands, plus their generics too.

Thanks for the input, everyone! (I posted earlier, it seems to have disappeared! lol) It seems like most say to take it to be prepared. I have my bonine, and I am ready!

Wal-Mart carries them. You can ask for bonine or less-drowsy dramamine. They aren't over-the-counter drugs though. You can find them in the aisle. Sometimes you really have to search though.

I am not sure if UK pharmacies carry it, but just in case Bonine is available on Amazon (and Amazon UK)!

Walmart has the 24hours Bonine. It is really good as we take 1 pill each night before we go to bed - that way, we are safe from drowsiness. I actually liked the suggestion someone had of trying it a few days early.

Thank you for the replies......will give it Bonine a go for the Simulators this year and see how I go with it.
