I am assuming the care from Dr. Lee is free to the Patients for participating on the show,but do you think the Patients also receive a "fee" and if so how much?

Some of the conditions are extremely "personal" and I think would not be "fun" to display on TV so I am thinking they must get a nice check in addition to free care.

Usually not. The compensation is the free medical care she provides as part of the show. People have to apply and be chosen. It's not like she is just picking regular patients out of her waiting room and putting them on TV.

Never watch but have seen a few ads for that show. Think it is gross watching the bizarre skin growths they have. Do people honestly wait 5+ yrs to see a doctor when they have some odd growth? DId they think it would just go away on its own? Seems they must not go to any doctor on a regular basis since any of them would have noticed these odd growths during their annual physical and recommended some sort of treatment.

I don't think they go to the doctor's and I also don't think they have the funds to see one.

A lot of people wait like 25 years. It's insane.

They often have a story that they saw a couple doctors who told them "it's harmless, don't worry about it." And that is usually true (it's usually a cyst or lipoma, which ARE harmless). Or, they saw doctors who couldn't or wouldn't remove the growth or who did it wrong and it grew back.

It's likely a combination of just overall poor medical care where they live (lots of these people live in very rural areas) and the costs associated with removing "benign" growths. It's usually not covered by insurance and becomes a cosmetic procedure. There is a lack of cosmetic dermatologists in a lot of remote/rural areas, so the ability to have something like a cyst removed properly can be out of these peoples reach.

I saw a dermatologist recently for a skin colored growth on my eyelid that looked suspicious to me and was getting larger. I live in an area flush with medical specialists. My insurance covered the consultation part of the visit, but the doctor immediately knew it was not anything serious like cancer and said it didn't need to be removed unless I wanted to have it removed, which I did. It was $80 out of pocket. Took her 30 seconds to zap it off. I imagine a large cyst removal would cost considerably more than that. Something like a large lipoma would probably cost several hundred dollars.

It should say somewhere in the fine print on the end credits. A good example of this would be a court show. Both parties are paid like a few thousand dollars. If someone is awarded a judgement of $1200, that comes out of the compensation, but the loser still gets $800 for doing the show.

Sounds like another disgusting "reality" show, in the vein of that "who's your daddy" show. You have to scratch your head where they come up with shows like these, one whackier than the next. And probably more strange, what kind of people are the viewers.

I watch on occasion. I find it interesting. I like the back stories and I’m so happy for the patients who have a successful procedure.

That makes sense. Either way, the way participants are compensated is stated some where in the fine print, though these days, the closing credits are very fast and small.

I watch it... I have a sick fascination with that kind of stuff, but then again I am a scientist and teach A&P.... so it is in my wheelhouse of fun things.

Saw something even better the other day on one of the social medias.... it was the same thing... removing/popping various growth things, but with exotic animals like lizards, turtles... so gross and good.

I actually have no problem with Dr. Pimple Popper. Now, the show about grossly obese people trying to get thin, that I object to. Some people make the effort, do the exercises etc. But some people throw the physiotherapists out of their houses, swearing at them, they refuse to stick to a diet, they demand special hospital transportation and are basically after the surgery. Not for me.

I watch it and love it. I was that kid who was watching full on surgeries on The Discivery Channel back in the 90s. I wanted to be a surgeon back in the day. I love watching surgical procedures and come on, everyone loves a good pimple pop. It's addictive.

The truth is, the show is largely lipoma, cyst removals, and inflammatory skin condition treatments. It's not a lot of gross pops. That's on her IG page.

I find it incredibly touching. It's hard to imagine the suffering, both emotional and physical, many of these patients have endured and been unable to access meaningful help. Being physically disfigured has far-reaching impacts on them and having these things resolved is literally life-altering. Dr. Sandra is so warm and compassionate with them; breaking down the walls they've put up out of fear and shame. Her work is extremely important; I only wish I could do so much for needy people.

I have to second that. These people have lived with mis-diagnosis and rejection for so long, if any doctor, be it Dr. Lee or not, can bring them closure, then all power to them!
