I'm not familiar with Dr. Phil's plan, but am very interested in reading his book. For those of you that follow his plan, is it just psychological info., or does it have a meal plan too? The reason I ask, is because I'm seriously thinking about starting WW this week. Can you follow another plan, and still use his overall plan? Help! I'm confused!! (I know...what's new?! :p )

I just have to get started on a real program, and quit trying to wing it myself! I get sidetracked waaaay too easily!! ;)

I'm on WW, and I'm also reading Dr. Phil's book. I'm not very far into it, but I feel that for the most part it handles the psychological aspect of developing a healthy lifestyle. I figure if I combine that with the WW way of eating, I should definitely see some progress! :)

I do WW's and have been reading and doing Dr. Phils book. You definately can do both. Its mostly about the Psychology of the how and why you eat and how to fix it. He does have information on how to eat. His basic approach is to eat High Response/High Yield food. Use the 1/4 protien, 1/4 carb, 2/4 veggies or fruit to fill your plate. The High Response/High Yield food would be things that take you a long time to make and eat. Broccoli take a while to cook, and the fiber makes it take longer to eat and digest.

He really talks about how diets (he mentions WW, but not by name) cause you to focus on foods. He says that counting points causes people to obsess and think about their food all day long.

I do WW's and love it. I think it's easier than just relying on knowing when to stop, or knowing if you have eaten enough. Some people try to diet and eat too little and cause their metabolisms to shut down. This causes a gain in weight instead of the opposite because your body is trying to hold on to the fat.

By doing WW's I how much to eat, and when to stop. There isn't any guesswork. At the end of the day, if I still have points left.......instead of feeling guilty, I can have a snack. If I did Dr. Phil's method, I think I would have a hard time knowing when to stop.

Hope this helps- Melanie

Count me in as someone doing both. I started Weight Watchers online a week ago and have lost 5 lbs. I really like the flex points and it has taught me a lot about portions control and making sure I have balance in my diet. I started reading Dr. Phil's book a few days later and I'm looking at it as a way to understand my weight and why I really want to lose it.

I do WW, and I have to say that I disagree with Dr. Phil on this point. My biggest problems tend to come when I don't plan. I'm the type of person that does better with a plan than just winging it. I don't obsess over food all the time, I just plan out what I'm going to eat so I'm less tempted to stray. Of course, that's just for me personally, but I don't think that planning is the same as obsessing. I think it's important to focus on food--food as a healthy part of living, not as something to eat too much of or to use to deal with emotional issues. Just my 2 cents. :)

This is just what I wanted to hear! Now, I'm going to have to send my dh to buy the book for me! And, I start WW tomorrow!! Woohoo!!! Everyone throw me some pixie dust!!! ;)

Woohoo Tiffany, you can do it! Congrats on starting WW's.

Elisabeth, that is exactly how I feel, I dont' think I could rely on myself to figure it out. That is exactly why I am overweight!
