Downtown LA hotel suggestions please

We have never stayed in downtown LA before, so would like some hotel suggestion please.
We will just have come from Orlando & visiting all the parks there & will be on a time crunch, so no Disneyland or Universal on this potion of the trip.
Could you please tell me which hotels you have stayed at & what they were central/handy to visit.

Also any LA sightseeing tips would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help with downtown hotels but don't miss Hollywood walk of fame, farmers markets & shopping at the grove next door, brea tar pits, a night concert at the Greek theatre or Hollywood bowl - time dependant of course
