Downtown Disney

It has been several years that we have been to WDW and have read a lot about the changes coming for Downtown Disney, also the valet parking! Is Downtown Disney still as great as it was before OR is it just a 'construction sight'? Also, do we 'have' to use the Valet Parking? We will be coming in from Davenport, FL and wondered the best entrance to go through for Downtown Disney? Can you help? Thank you.

I have not been impressed with DTD since they got rid of Pleasure Island. If all you want to do is shop and eat, then, I am sure you will be fine. No, you don't have to use Valet. Last time I was there, I managed to get a spot in the first lot coming from the Crossroads area. It is sort of a hit or miss situation, as always.

[Sea Six]

We usually park by Cirque de Soleil, where there are plenty of spaces. Then we ride the water taxi from behind the House of Blues over to the Rainforest Cafe and wander back on foot. You can also get off at Pleasure Island.
