Go early in the day, to avoid crowds. Also, take the kids to DisneyQuest for video game fun. The admission is including with the park hopper pass. Otherwise, it is $31.
My kids used to enjoy Downtown Disney. Its been several years since I've been thru the whole place. I've also seen lots of changes. It may be totally different now. We would go thru the main Disney Store, the Lego Store, wander thru the other shops, & eat at the Rainforest Cafe. My children seemed to enjoy their trek thru Downtown Disney. Including lunch we'd use up about 2 1/2 hours, but that was awhile ago. Also, if you're planning on Disney Quest, thats a whole adventure in itself. When my kids became teens they would go there together while dh and I enjoyed Downtown Disney on our own, so i've never been there.
I think only the Ultimate Park Hopper pass (UPH, formerly the UMP and LOS) is the only park hopper that includes Disney Quest. I don't think the plusses can be used to enter DQ. But kids will love Once Upon a Toy, the ultimate Disney Toy Store. You can buy Mr Potato Head pieces of all kinds. It is really neat.

Admission to DQ is NOT included with park hopper plusses. Only with UPH's and PAPs. PHPs include admission to the major theme parks, water parks and the sports place and PI.
From Deb's site:
Park Hopper Plus Pass - Provides unlimited admission to the Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Freedom to go from theme park to theme park on the same day PLUS a choice of visits to the following: Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon, River Country (open seasonally), Pleasure Island, and Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. Visits with multi-day passes do not need to be consecutive and unused days and the plus visits never expire. You cannot park hop at the minor parks when using your Plus options. Each admission to a minor park counts as one Plus option.
hey beast/del. I have never been to Downtown Disney but my family is doing it this visit and for what I have read and heard, your kids would just love DisneyQuest. Hope you and your family has a great vacation.
We love going to downtown Disney day or night. The kids will probably enjoy legoland. DQ is a blast - we always end up spending more time there than we schedule.
My two loved it last year at 6 & 9. Everyone enjoyed the pin trading area especially, but also World of Disney, Once Upon a Toy, and the Lego Sculptures. We went first thing in the morning when it opened, at 9:30.
