Downtown Disney...why all the fuss?

We were there over spring break and ended up in the new parking garage by accident - didn't realize the turn we took led into it. Was really impressed, though, by the road construction in front of DTD - it's really going to be a large increase in road capacity when they are finished with what looked like little fly-overs and numerous new lanes.

It is hard to tell, but it does at least look like the way they are doing things will help traffic. I sure hope so. I pretty much only try to go at night, and last time I was there it was mess.

The garage has lights above each space, so you can see if a spot is open before pulling down an aisle, that was smart. Gets people in and out of the garage much quicker.

So what is the space that was all the parking lots behind WOD and the rest of the Marketplace being used for ? Is this just a temporary thing ? Is there a garage on the Cirque end and another garage being built on WOD end ? I'm confused. I'm trying to picture all this. It's been over a year since I've been down there.

One more question, is parking at Casting which is pretty much right across from the Marketplace OR at Team Disney which would be a further walk ?

I believe that they are putting another garage in. I could be wrong keeping track of wear all the garages are going is hard at times. Casting is across from a section of the Marketplace.

The area is now one big construction site where they are adding another parking garage.

I don't park across the street so I hesitate to tell you exactly where it feeds into.

The lots behind WOD are valet parking only. You can park there if you are willing to $20 to do so. The parking at Casting is near Team Disney.

I know you are local but are you sure this is currently true? I know it was valet around Christmas but I was down there a couple of weeks and I don't believe it is currently true. I was under the impression that the only valet now at DTD is near Cirque. And I will be the the first to say I will be thrilled to be wrong as I would definitely valet near WOD if available. I actually almost fainted near the toy store the end of March and the CMs were commiserating with me that the nearest parking for me was the parking garage.

For those concerned about the walking, there is a boat from behind the House of Blues over to the marketplace side, and it runs continuously.

We leave tomorrow morning and are only going for the weekend. Our first night was going to be Downtown Disney. I hope we will be able to manage that. We had planned to shop and do some pin trading and then have dinner at Earl of Sandwich. We would be driving. So I guess we will be parking in the parking garage?

I would avoid DtD on a weekend evening.

I would avoid DtD on a weekend evening.

I also try to avoid downtown Disney on weekend evenings or in the evening for that matter but if that's the time the poster is going to be there then I would not alter the plans just because it's a weekend evening. Keep in mind though that it might take longer to get to a parking place because the traffic in the area is very bad in the evening but you will get a parking place.
