Downtown Disney Traffic?

We are heading to DW during the peak of crowds, and I have heard that Downtown Disney has been a traffic nightmare during construction. Is it better now that the parking garage has opened? Has anyone tried to navigate this yet?

We have reservations there two nights during our trip and I am wondering what will be the quickest and easiest. We do have a rental car or of course we could take the bus. We are staying at Art of Animation if that helps.

Thanks for any advice!

We did this on Monday (12/8) about noon and traffic was horrible.

The best option is to take a bus. The buses use a different way into Downtown Disney then most cars use and they don't have to deal with the parking lot traffic. Even though it took long amounts of time in November for cars to get into DD, the buses pretty much drove right in. Sometimes there were minor backups among the buses themselves waiting to get into their drop-off zones, but we never experienced any delays on the actual Disney buses.

I agree take the bus if you can. Give yourself plenty of time. The congestion is still very bad around DTD. Fall 2015 cant come soon enough.

We are headed to the parks and DTD this weekend. We want to see a movie (& eat at Ghirardeli of course).

We will be at AK, then headed to DTD. What will be the best way to get there? if we leave out car at a park, we will have to make it back int time to get it, so that is the biggest complication I see.

Edit: I see MK is open until 1am tomorrow. We could go there in the afternoon, then take a bus from contemporary to DTD. After movie and ice cream, take bus back to contemporary then monorail to parking lot/car.

I guess the question is, given the state of traffic around DTD, would that plan be better than driving?

This is a viable option. You could also take a bus from MK to SSR and then walk the path from SSR to DTD. I believe it's the Congress stop that's closest to DTD.

Thanks! I'll report back on how it goes (I prefer to walk).

Went to DTD this morning and got to the area around 9:40. Had to park at Casting and walk across the road. Although DTD was pretty empty, the construction and traffic was a nightmare. I made my purchase and got out of there quick. I won't be returning to the area until that mess is over.

We will be there March and have an ADR for T-Rex at 11am. We will be coming from a Universal hotel but plan to check into POR after lunch. Would it be better to checkin before lunch and take the boat from POR to T-Rex, or just drive to DTD and park? Or will things be better by then?

Yes, take the boat.

The reconstruction of BVD & the construction of the 2nd garage will be going on for at least another year.
