Downtown Disney parking?

Hi everyone,

We are going for our first trip to Disney in a couple of weeks. I've read that parking at Downtown Disney can be really ugly. Do they always have valet? If so how much does it cost and where is it located? Would you suggest using valet or trying to find a spot on your own?

Self-parking is complimentary. We’ve begun an all-new expansion, so the entire Downtown Disney area at Walt Disney World Resort is really buzzing with excitement. During construction, now through 2016, we recommend arriving 60 minutes prior to your show time or reservation.

On our busiest days, just follow the signs to the overflow parking and enjoy our complimentary shuttle or a quick walk back to the Downtown Disney area.

Valet parking is available from 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM. Enter through Downtown Disney West Side Entrance 4—vehicle drop-off is directly in front of Cirque du Soleil. The cost of valet parking is $20 and will be collected at the time of pick-up. Gratuity is not included.

Staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel? Take advantage of complimentary transportation by bus or boat. Many area accommodations also provide or arrange transportation to and from the Downtown Disney area.

There’s so much to see and do, you might want to arrive earlier in the day. This is also the time when the Downtown Disney area tends to be less busy.

I think people are being scared off by the rumors. We went the last week of August (probably bigger crowds then when you'll be going) and there was ample parking in the marketplace end especially the far end towards Once Upon a Toy. We went a couple of times when there were 10 open spaces in a row. I'd never seen the parking lot so empty. I didn't try to park anywhere else but I think we went 3 times during our stay at various times and got right into a space every time. Traffic getting there was a bit of a pain but once we got into the lot, parking was a breeze.

When we were there in early August for bowling at Splitsville in the evening we used the Valet parking which was free with our TIW card. It worked very well from us.

We didn't self park, so I have no info to add on that. However the Dis had an update just recently about changes to valet parking due to the remodeling.
