Downtown Disney or Theme Park View?

I am hoping to go to Disneyland next year for a few days and have heard so much about the Grand Californian that I am planning to stay there.

What I'm curious about and would like your opinion on, though, is the following: Which "view" would you recommend and why? The Downtown Disney view or the Theme Park view? What are the positive points for each view?

I voted for theme park view, I had a beautiful one yesterday. I've had the DTD view, and some have been great, like when we were over the Jamba Juice store and could hear Drew Tretick playing his violin down below, but we've also had one over the World of Disney store, with a not so great view of the tram loading and unloading zone. The theme park views have always been pretty good. They are starting construction though on the theme park side of one of the wings, so it might be a bit noisy once they start to really get going. So far, they have the ground graded, and you can see the outlines of where the building is going to expand to.

They also had a lot of scaffolding up yesterday throughout the entire resort for painting. I felt sorry for the people who had a courtyard view, because all they could see was the scaffolding outside their balcony.

we are trying dtd view to start as it is Christmas when we are going and I thought there'd be more decorations and fun with that view! but summertime I would do the theme park viewor possibly poolview is nice when it's hot this will be our first stay at the grand as well

I chose DTD view but only because we don't spend nearly enough time in the room enjoying the view to justify paying for theme park view.

VWCat, DTD view at Christmas is fabulous!! All the trees have those multi color light balls hanging, hundreds of them. It's so neat to see from the balcony! We were right over the World of Disney Store!! I can't wait to be there in December again!

DTD view for sure... one time we stayed we got lucky and ended up in just the right spot so we could see the fireworks (mostly)

Last Christmas I was there and had the theme park view, it was nice but at Christmas time there was nothing Christmasy about the rapid ride. I am going in 6 days and got the theme park view again with concierge. I got the AP so when I go agine before the year is out I will try the DTD view

I wholeheartedly agree with the DTD view at Christmas. It is amazing! Even when the location isn't the best, you get to see the beautiful decorations. I've had great luck in the 4 times we had the view room to be able to see the fireworks mostly. Some locations are better than others, but any are fun for people watching! I haven't tried the park view because I like the DTD view too much.

There are a couple of theme park views. There is the view that you can look towards Paradise Pier. Beautiful lights at night. There is also the view that is usually called Grizzly but also theme park. This is a great view of Soarin and the Grizzly River Run area. I have stayed in all views, and I can't complain/be negative about anything. Whatever you decide have a wonderful time! Your in for a treat.

I didn't vote, but I have always heard that DTD is loud until late. I have enjoyed my theme park view though.
