Hello,

We are planning on staying at the Doubletree Suites hotel in Downtown Disney and plan on renting an ECV for my wife to use during the trip. My question is whether or not the Downtown Disney Hotel Resort Area buses, which serve the Doubletree Suites hotel, are equipped for ECVs? I saw another post back in 2005 that seemed to imply that many of the buses did not have working ramps to carry the ECVs. Since it is 9 years later is this still the case or are all the buses now equipped to handle ECVS? This may be a determining factor as to whether or not we stay at the Doubletree Suites or one of the Disney hotels instead. Thanks in advance for checking on this for me.

They have new buse that have lifts their not as nice as Disney but they can handle ecv. Disney has the best buses for guest in ecv and wheelchairs in the area. They spend the most and get the best buses they make just to make sure that guest in ecv and wheelchairs have a safe and enjoyable ride. The downtown Disney buses are okay they have steps up so they have a lift and their narrower then the Disney buses.

I was going to do dtd Hilton this December instead of Disney to save money but when I called Hilton last week to make sure their buses could handle ecvs I got some hemming and hawing from the concierge desk ending up with yes the buses take ecvs but they would appreciate 24 hrs notice to make sure an equipped bus was sent. "so that means I have to know the day before exactly what time I want to go?" "well,.......". so I'm biting the bullet on bwi instead.

Bwi is a great resort though I thought the Hilton used the blue buses that serves the other dtd hotels. They all should be able to take ecvs if that the case their just not as easy to use as Disney buses. I know the Hilton in bonnet creek uses mears which is tour style buses which will need advance warning so they have a accessible buses their for your stay. But thought the one in dtd use the service the other ones did which use a lift and shouldn't need the 24 hour advance notice as all those buse should be accessible.

a general sense of confusion and uncertainty they left me with. combine that with not wanting to call any more attention at the bus stop than already will be. nonetheless, perhaps I will call back and try to get more sense out of them.

I understand if hey have his much Confucian now if you did call 24 hours you might for one person who told you they didn't have a bus that could take one. Hope you have a great trip and it works out for you.

Yes, the buses are equipped for ECVs. The only time we got a bus that wasn't was during super-busy Spring Break when they sent a regular Mears tour bus but they had extra buses in the rotation and they were coming quicker than every 30 minutes.
