Hi:)

Have been to WDW many times but have never used the downtown check in - booked with virgin and have paid for the extra legroom seats which can only be allocated at check in - can someone give me a step by step how to use the downtown check in and do they allocate seats there and then??

It's just like checking in at the airport. You head over to Downtown Disney (it's in the parking lot) with your bags, passports etc. They check you in, allocate your seats and load your bags onto a lorry and hand you your boarding pass. It's really no different from checking in at the airport.

Do you have to book direct with virgin to use this? Flying with virgin but booked though ebookers?

Is there a charge for it and do u know what times it's open??

Thankyou:thumbsup2

Just answered my own questions - it's free to virgin holidays guests and open from 0815 - 1300 :))

Is there usually long queues ?? We would get there for when it opens - what are your experiences??

Anyway flying Virgin can use DTD check in. It is free for Virgin Holidays, upper class & flying club gold. For everyone else it costs $10 per person.

There are usually queues early on.

We don't use DTD check in anymore. Much prefer to use OLCI and bag drop at the airport doesn't waste so much time and the bag drop desks never have a line. It's also free to do it that way :thumbsup2

We don't usually bother with it now.
Did it once took almost an hour stood in silly heat. Tried again another trip line was too long.
Did it a couple of years ago flying PE but that was only because OLCI wasn't working, like Tracy I would rather do OLCI and goto airport, don't see point in paying for it.
Although the way Virgin's prices have gone I doubt I will be flying with them again.

So is it no longer free with Virgin Atlantic flights? That's a pain. It was free last year as far as I recall. We've used it 5 times and always get there about half an hour before it opens and have always been out at the most half an hour later. Much prefer it to dragging the bags around the airport personally. Also got the extra legroom flights checking in here last year for about £90 for 4.

It's never been free for anyone other than VH customers or Gold Virgin Flying Club members as far as I recall.

We have done it in previous years, when we've booked through VH but, like most, we just do OLCI now and bag drop. Much quicker and easier.

How does printing boarding passes work? We do olci here but never done it in orlando

They print them at the airport when you bag drop unless you are staying in a hotel that has a printer, Fairfield Inn has a free PC with printer just for OLCI.

We get ours at the airport even when I check in at home as I prefer the small ones they hand out!

In all the flights we've booked with VA - I have never had anything for free DTD check in.

Always had a voucher with VH although not used them since 2009!

Same here, no vouchers thru VA, its supposed to be a perk for VH customers (Xmas 2008 last time I used them) and VA's top level customers.

It is supposed to be $10 per person unless your on a virgin holiday package upper class or a gold card holder. pre 9/11 it was free for everyone. I've found them to be really strict on weighing bags at downtown disney- much more that the airport, so if your close to your max weight Maybe think about going to the airport.

We were quite a bit over on each of our bags, and they said nothing. Not sure if its because we only had one bag each (we were PE so could have had two) that they weren't as strict though :)

:goodvibes

We found the queue moved really quickly and like others have said its just like the airport except your cases go straight into container lorries!

Fabulous service, I wish BA could do something similar!

the check in lady at VA in Orlando Airport told us that you can go 2kg per bag over on the way home and that was fine. Anything over then they start to raise they eyebrows!:) So we have nearly always been over on at least one bag by this amt and have yet to pay anything.
