DownTown Disney check in???

We are using First Choice for our August holiday, staying at POFQ and I was wondering about the whole Downtown Disney check in thing. Is this for anyone who stays onsite?

Virgin checks in at Downtown Disney, not sure about First Choice. It is to do with the airline rather than the hotel you are staying in.
