Most of us know that when a 35mm film has finished you can pop along to your nearest developing shop, have it developed and put a new film in the camera. Simple enough, even in Orlando, if you want your pictures there and then. But I have a different problem I hope someone can help me with....

Off to Orlando in 3 weeks and taking DV video camera. It has a 256 SD Memory Card, which holds around 2 hours of video. I don't want to buy additional memory cards, at around £40 a shot, if I can have the images downloaded on a PC and cut to a CD for a small price. Does anyone know of anywhere in Orlando that provides this service, or who could help?? At worst I can bring across my own USB memory card reader and blank CD's with me...

Surely a business opportunity for someone in Orlando... Florida... USA... World..... !!!!!!

I believe the kodak shop in magic does , but it aint cheap go on the us forum sure to get the right answer there

Cheers. will check it out and get back here so I can pass the info on.

As long as its cheaper than forty quid (the price of one 256SD memory card), then I'm happy.....!!!!!

Stash,

I think that you can do this at Walmart stores but can't find link yet, will keep looking. I think i'm right.

I would be interested in this information too as i also have the 256 sd card and would like to ba able to download to a cd whilst out there.

I'm still looking but am struggling to find anything. I thought that Walmart or Target did this service but can't find anything at the present.

It may be they don' do this service any more - mmmmm, will look further.

There was a camera shop in Belz Factory outlet which you could have them downloaded off a digital camera. Not sure about videos but worth a look. I can't remeber the name of the shop tho sorry.

Walmart download images from a card to CD for just a few dollars. Prints are just a few cents. Not sure about video, but why not send off an e-mail to Walmart.

Checked out all the info/suggestions posted, but these are for the processing of digital images, not digital video.

BUT I HAVE FOUND SOMEWHERE THAT WILL DO IT!!!!!!

Check out the following website:

www.digitalvideodynamics.com

Have contacted the site to see if they could transfer digital video to CD, and here is the reply...

...we can download your video images onto CD, and yes please bring your USB card reader. The cost will be $19.99 plus Florida state sales tax plus delivery fee. Please let us know when you will need our services so that we can make arrangements at that time for drop off and pick up. Our phone number is
(407) 380-3518 or you can e-mail us.

Brenda is the main contact...

They do not have a store, but arrangements can be made for collection and delivery. Email them prior to your trip just to let them know you'll be using their service

Thanks for all your help.

Glad you managed to find somewhere to arrange the transfer. Hope it all works out ok.

Do you mind me asking the make/model of the video camera, and what the quality of the video is like? 2 hours of video on a 256MB SD card sounds like pretty amazing compression.

Thanks,
Paul

Why are you recording video onto an SD card? As Paul said, the picture compression will have to very high which will lead to poor quality pictures. A 60/90 minute miniDV tape costs less than two quid - much cheaper than spending $20 plus tax to transfer low quality video to a CD.

Regards

Rob

I don't want to turn this thread into a techie forum, but I'll give try to keep this brief:

I'll be taking across my StyleCam DV100 in 12 days time. It'll shoot about 8fpm at 640x320. Yes, I know, not fantastic, but I considered other factors when deciding to take this...

The DV100 is small (fits snugly into my palm)and light.

I'm not carrying round a noticably, expensive DV Camera whilst in Florida.

The DV100 is easy to use. Press one button and aim which means I can show the kids/mother-in-law how to use it, and occasionally I can be in front rather than behind the camera.

I'm not looking to produce a shoot for the "Holiday" programme, just short clips to use as memories of the holiday. The images do not have to be perfect, its the content which will come first.

I'm only using it in the daytime, so no worries about light.

At the end of the day it comes down to personal choice. For me I want to really enjoy myself, and bring back loads of memories which will stick with my kids for years to come.

As to the cost being expensive for cutting SD to Disk. All down to market forces. If you're the only one providing a service which people require then you can charge whatever you like. Prices will only fall when the niche becomes the norm. Remember how much a miniDV tape cost when it arrived on the market...

Anyway, 12 days to go and the kids are doing the counting for me...!!!!
