with the advancements in VR tech does anyone think Disney and Universal will eventually create VR content that will essentially be interactive versions of their theme park attractions. Fusing 360 video, attractions, and video games? A Disney theme park available in the comfort of your own home?

Look up Disney Magic Kingdoms. It's on Disney's website and is at least a start.

We had a game called Walt Disney World Explorer many years ago. It was only out for a few years and was very rough around the edges but it involved WDW attractions.

Anyway no VR but based on history who knows what they might come up with?

I absolutely see options like this in the future. We have the ability to deliver this today, though the cost would be prohibitively high.

No because they want people to come and spend money. You can't come and spend money by sitting at your house.
I'd have to agree with this. Many surrounding VR when it was launching talked about how eventually you'd be able to sit virtually at a concert or a sporting event and it would be just like your there. And that seems like a slam dunk, but it never happened. And it's my assumption that it follows the same arguement. Sure you pay for a virtual ticket to a basketball game for instance. But you wouldn't be paying the parking charge, for drinks, for food etc.

I play Disney Magic Kingdoms :teeth::teeth::teeth::teeth: Such a silly game but for some reason I feel the need to complete every character

Disney can partner with Amazon for the true vision of the future: Ride FOP from the comfort of your home with your own personal Disney motion simulator - VR headset unit while an Amazon drone delivers a nice Dole Whip Pineapple Float and a banshee to your front door in 20 minute or less.

Sure you can - initial price includes Main St and Adventure land ... additional costs for the other lands, attractions, etc.

And not everyone can come to the parks so this could be an alternative

Not saying the will do it but there is a way to monetize it

Sure you could do that but doing that wouldn't be the same prices as if you were in the parks. I think people would've have tried this by now with sporting events and such.

Anything Disney does in an official capacity will be designed to promote visits to the actual theme parks...not replace that experience.

Others may try to leverage the Disney Parks for virtual worlds, as they do now with things like Rollercoaster Tycoon and Minecraft. But even VR technology is still a long way from being a substitute for the real thing. People who look at a VR Magic Kingdom and think "yeah, this is good enough" didn't really plan on spending the money in the first place.

I don't think this is a fair argument, because attendance to sporting events has constantly declined in the last decade, mostly due to how great TVs have gotten. I think they just haven't tried VR because it's not worth the initial cost to jump start something that would only be used by a niche crowd.

I agree with a poster above. But instead of allowing guests into all the parts of the parks for a fee, only give them Main Street and maybe one ride, PERIOD. I imagine you would make a TON of money off of all of us Disney fanatics to just get a taste of WDW while we're not able to be there, but you're not giving away the whole enchilada (or anywhere close to it).

I rarely hang out on Main Street (only go in there when it's 1) super hot, 2) raining, or 3) I want ice cream), but I would LIVE on Main Street in a virtual world at home.

Sure but right now one big problem is you can only do VR for so long before it's unhealthy. I have a VR headset and I can go about 15-20 minutes before I have a headache. Spending an hour or more in a VR theme park doesn't sound all that appealing at the moment.

I agree with the amount of VR you can handle. I'm just looking at it from a Disney money-making perspective. Even if people only used it once, I bet a ton of people would buy it because it's "being at Disney" in a VR environment. I can imagine it absolutely cleaning up, and you wouldn't even have to give away very much content.

Not sure where you got that info. NBA has set attendance records for 3 straight years.

http://www.nba.com/article/2017/04/13/nba-breaks-all-time-attendance-record-third-straight-season

NFL was highest in 9 years and I can't find any evidence that it has declined long term. Owners keep building larger and larger stadiums.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/193420/regular-season-attendance-in-the-nfl-since-2006/

MLB was down a little last year but still had it's 11th largest total attendance ever:

Whoever I was reading from was an idiot.

I don't think it'll ever catch on because you'll never get the true "feel". I can watch a ride in glasses, but I can't actually feel the movement, smell the smells, or get the experience of actually being there.
