I was excited to hear that free dining will be announced soon and thrilled we booked dates that fell into the free dining time frame, but bummed LM rooms will be excluded as that is where we are booked. (I totally understand why, but was hoping for some pixie dust on that one!) Anyway, because of that, we are deciding to stay in the LM rooms for the first weekend we are there and then go to the royal rooms at POR for the remainder of our 14 day stay since I figured it will actually be $40 cheaper to do that and pay for an extra one day park ticket and the qs dining plan out of pocket and then stay at a moderate resort with free dining the rest of the trip (because we were paying for 4 TS meals oop anyway if we were on the QS plan.) Don't worry I am getting to a dining plan question in all of this!!!! I have heard that at the hotel they can downgrade some TS credits to CS credits. Is this true and has anyone actually done it recently? We are going with two kids (4 and almost 2) and we cannot handle that many table services. We really prefer the QS plan, but aren't passing up a free meal plan. Thanks!!!

I do not know the answer to your question about downgrading, but I wouldn't be so sure LM rooms at AOA will be excluded. We are booked for a trip the end of September to beginning of October with Free Dining at AOA in the LM rooms. So, I would wait until the information comes out. They may not be excluded.

WDW will not downgrade TS to QS as have seen that on the boards here before. and on the AoA for FD at LM have not heard on that either way yet. seen 2013 prices coming out 7/11/2012 is all have seen so far

There were a few select dates that free dining could be applied to the Little Mermaid rooms, with the previous fall free dining offer, and some people have been able to apply FD email pin codes to the Little Mermaid rooms for some dates, but the Little Mermaid rooms at AOA are supposed to be blacked out for the general public free dining offer that is supposed to be released July 12 and I would not plan on them being included due to their popularity and the relative low number of those standard rooms at the new resort.

There have been people who have reported being able to convert TS credits into CS credits, but it is not WDW policy and is up to the descretion of the restaurant you are dining at.

While at AoA you would have to pay for your meals OOP, but you wouldn't have to buy the 1 day tickets. The ticket sticky on the Theme Park board has the early pick up procedure in Post 15I.

I have heard that at the hotel they can downgrade some TS credits to CS credits. Is this true and has anyone actually done it recently? The current version of the 2012 Dining Plan doesn't mention this, but the earlier version stated that TS credits could be used at CS restaurants. I haven't seen any threads recently about whether people have been able to do this or not.

My answers in red.

I emailed WDW about trading in a table service to use for a quick service meal and this is an exerpt from the email that I recevied earlier today:

Dear XXXXX,

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World® Resort. We are happy to
know you will be vacationing with us and experiencing the magic!

You will be happy to know that you can use a table service meal
entitlement to obtain a quick service meal, but you cannot use a quick
service meal entitlement to obtain a table service meal.

At the end of the email it does also state:

PLEASE NOTE: All information is subject to change without notice and
should be confirmed just prior to your visit.
