Downgrading Cabin after PIF Date

We have changed our category before and we got the pricing from the day we booked which was opening day. You are locked in on the pricing on the day you book
really? I didn't realize this... so if you book Cat 4A on opening day and switch it 6 months later to 4B or a different category - you would get pricing in the new category as of opening day (or whatever day you booked it)?

Is this possible and if so, is there a penalty or will Disney refund the entire difference? Also, we booked first day pricing...will that be honored? Thanks.
I don't believe you can downgrade and get a refund after PIF.
I don't think Disney would allow it after PIF.
I downgraded after the PIF date this past December and got a refund for the difference. Yes, you can do it.

I can't address the pricing question as we booked the trip only a few months before the cruise, and I don't believe pricing had changed for our cruise between our booking date and the time we downgraded.

pretty sure they would price you at current day pricing, that's usually how it works with most changes, never heard of honoring opening day pricing, that sounds like a nightmare for Disney to manage anyways because people change all the time and it's always current day pricing

But it isn't always current day pricing. If you are changing rooms on the same cruise, you are supposed to pay what the fare was for the new room on the day you booked. If you change to a different cruise, then that is a cancellation and new booking and you will pay current day pricing.

Yes, you get the pricing for what the category was on the day that you originally booked.

cool thanks, learned something new, that's pretty good info, I've often thought of switching but have been fearful of price because I thought I had to go with current day

So what if the category didn't exist on the day that you originally booked? E.g booked opening day but the only things available now are GTYs. Would I pay the opening day price as if I picked a specific cabin, but have just a GTY, or would I pay today's GTY rate on that category (which is MUCH higher, btw)?

GTY pricing is the same as if you actually pick a room. For example - GTY 9B is the same price as a 9B room-specific booking.

You would pay the price that that category was on the day the original booking was made.

exactly what I was asking...if GTY 9B existed on opening day it would cost the same as a 9B. So now I'd pay as if I was getting a 9B (even though I'm really getting a GTY 9B). Thanks!

We downgraded a stateroom on one of our cruises this past January, and the refund was applied to our credit card approximately 1 week later. We easily made the change online since we booked direct thru DCL.
