doubling up base tickets instead of hopper?

I know you can't buy a 10 day base and try and use it 5 days to hop.

I have multiple 10 day NE base tickets. We are now a family that hops much more than we did when these tickets were purchased. Can I (on the same day):

- enter MK with base #1
- enter Epcot with base #2

I am using 2 different park tickets to enter 2 different parks.

Can I still use old paper tickets to get in the turnstiles? They are linked to my MB, but I want to use them in the order I want... without spending an hour at GS when the crew wants to go ride rides! I know the physical tickets and the correct order...

1. I am using 2 different park tickets to enter 2 different parks.

2. Can I still use old paper tickets to get in the turnstiles?

3. They are linked to my MB, but I want to use them in the order I want...

1. Yes, that will work.
BUT, it will be somewhat foolish, money-wise, to do so.

2. Not the actual tickets.

3. Just take the tickets to any Guest Relations or ticket booth (all it takes is a one-time visit) and the CM will trade the old paper tickets for NEW PLASTIC RFID TICKETS (with the same assets as your paper tickets.)
The new RFID tickets CAN be used directly at the gates, and for accessing FP+ inside the parks.

BTW, I can't let that statement "spending an hour at GS" just sit there with other's reading this.
It would be very unlikely that you would have to use up anywhere near that kind of time getting tickets re-prioritized.

I just can't imagine burning through all those days when you could just add park hopping to one set of the tickets for like $60 a piece and save the other set for a future trip. Are they partially used and unable to be upgraded or something?

You can add Park Hopping to used (but still valid) base tickets, though.

You can only upgrade tickets (e.g. add hopping) within 14 days of the first time they were used.

purple figment is Correct. If the tickets have been partially-used in previous trips, they are not upgradable any longer.

HOWEVER-
It would make much more financial sense (in the long run) to buy NEW non-expiring tickets this trip and add the park hopper option to those new tickets.

Then, just use a day from the new tickets when hopping is desired, and use a day from the old tickets when no hopping is needed that day.

I agree on the face of it, it doesn't seem to make sense. I'll try to explain my thinking.

I have:
- base ticket (NE) from 2005 w/ 1 day remaining
- base ticket (NE) from 2008 w/ 5 days remaining
- hopper (NE) from 2010 w/ 3 days remaining

We have an upcoming trip planned where we will *probably* hop (still weather and flight dependent). Don't feel like outlaying cash for 1 extra day to hop. I don't think I can upgrade the partially used tickets. I realize I am "burning" an extra ticket, but I would rather use them and use them up then put out cash and have these sitting there. Our kids are older and I don't know how many trips to Disney are in the near future... especially when sports schedules are so demanding. We struggle to find a long weekend to do something locally much less a trip that would be longer!

So my plan is to:
- use 3 days left on PH ticket to hop
- use one base ticket up (day #1 - don't know if hop or not)
- use 1 day of 5 day base ticket if we decided to hop on day #1

One would think it would be easy... but I've read some horror stories about people stuck at GS for this exact situation to be straightened out. I know my 'crew' will be anxious to get into the park!

I understand that what I am thinking of doing doesn't make sense - I am essentially paying twice. However, when looking forward - with our kids - I see the years of Disney trips ending. I'd rather not outlay the cash for a new 10day NE hopper now. I'd rather use up some of the older tickets I have.

Yes, this makes sense and would be a perfect way to use up the old tickets.

We were there between Christmas and New Year, had to go to Guest Relations 3 times (once at AK, once at DtD and once at the MK) and never spent more than 15 minutes waiting.

so glad to hear that!

thx!

Thanks everyone else for your input!

It sounds like the real question is, how much do you value those tickets? Each day on a No-Expiration ticket costs about $70, depending on your options. If you're going for five days, the most cost effective thing to do is buy a new five-day ticket. But if those old tickets have less value in your estimation, due to your future travel plans, then you should go ahead and use them up.

If you have no plans to ever return and want to use up the tickets, then yes this is the way to do it. I understand you do not wish to "lay out" the cash for additional tickets, but if there is even a chance that you may return, I agree with others that the best way would be to buy a new hopper ticket and save the NE ones you have for days you do not plan to hop. It's a financial advantage to keep those old tickets that represent a much lower ticket price for full days.

It's your money and you should spend it where you feel the best value is. If not spending additional $$ is your preference regardless of savings, then that is your choice and go and have fun.

that is a good way to put it - and these non-hopping tickets have minimal value to me. I'd rather use them up at this point!

The chance that we will return in the next 3-5 years is becoming smaller and smaller the older my kids get and the more insane the sports schedules become. That's why I'd rather not have a new "investment" in more tickets but try and use what is out there.

thanks guys.

This is new to me. I bought a 5 day ticket ( not a hopper). Are you saying I can't use more than 1 day at a time? We had planned on going to the parks for 3 days and maybe hopping 1 or 2.

That's right. If you haven't bought hopping then once you've used your ticket at a park, THAT is your park for the day. You can leave and enter that park as much as you want, but your ticket won't get you into any other park.

Ah, this is much more complex than I had imagined originally. Have fun.

Unless you add a hopper, you cannot enter more than one park on the same day with your ticket. The park you enter first is the park you are limited to for the day. If you use your ticket to enter MK on Saturday, then you can enter and leave MK as much as you want on Saturday, but you cannot go over to Epcot for Saturday dinner and get in on the same ticket.
