Just curious about the hotel in general. Read very mixed revews on www.tripadvisor.com (and it seemed most were *****ing about nothing). And just wanting to make sure it is bearable staying there for roughly 6 days. Have back-up choices just in case, mainly either the Hyatt Place or the Fairfield by Universal (planning on ealking everyday so I can be at the park when I want to, can get a cab if I'm tired when I leave). Thanks in advance!! :ewok:

Well its like a 10 min walk to Universal and is a good hotel and the staff was very helpful and the pool is nice and since your going in sept it should be ok but gets full in june and not fun swimming when its crowded and our room was nice except I smoke and they gave us nonsmoking and yes you can get cabs pretty easy at the hotel or Universal and its about $5.00 each way and they also have a shuttle bus to Universal and the good thing about that is the double tree is the first stop cause they stop at other hotels but doesn't take too long we used it a couple times.
Across the parking lot is a steakhouse but can't remeber the name and golden corral and burgerking and across street you will see tgi fridays and down from that is a cracker barrel and the hotel has a coulpe of resturants and a pizza hut.
All in all its a good hotel if your on a budget and good places to eat and if I forgot anything just ask :thumbsup2

Sounds good. Glad there are a lot of restaurants around. Tho I do plan on going to Mythos while I'm there. Going back and forth on doing a character breakfast for the photo ops (plus I remember reading somewhere you get into the park early :goodvibes ). Thanks for the info!!!

Your welcome and glad I could help :thumbsup2

Another opinion...

I've stayed there often. Easy walk once you cross the street to Universal property--sidewalks the whole way. It's also right next to Orlando Ale House which is pretty popular with locals. Not sure the rate you got, but there's a AAA rate of $80 a night including taxes right now. Great price for a great convenient location.

Be sure to try Po'Boys when you're there too. Its on Kirkman just past the turnpike overpass on the right. There is also an Outback Steakhouse in that center.

If the Doubletree doesnt work out, I would highly recommend the Fairfield Inn. We have stayed there and were very happy with it.

that was my second choice, if only cause its cheaper. also still somewhat considering the Hyatt Place. A 42' hi-def tv is kinda hard to pass up, lol.

No doubt, 42" flat screens are great. I've only stayed at a Hyatt Place in one time, and was happy with it.

I was very happy with the Doubletree last week. Nice large rooms, clean, and cold a/c! Good variety of eating choices with the onsite buffet restaurant, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, and ice cream. I would say that our room was as nice as our room at the HRH or RPR.

I've read those reviews and reviews on other travel sites too and I have to say that some people are just never satisfied unless they can find something to complain about. This is a perfectly nice hotel, with a pleasant and helpful staff. I've stayed there twice and had a large, clean room each time. There are restaurants and a food court on site. It has a fairly big pool - no water slides or anything like that, but it's nice. And they give you a warm cookie when you check in. It is an easy, pleasant walk to Universal, except for the very beginning when you have to cross Kirkman Rd.

that's similar to what my BF said. when I was talking to him about it, he said that people are never satisfied unless the staff wipes their butt for them....something along those lines. I kinda agree, there are a lot of people like that out there.
