Double Strollers... bring your own or rent?

We are going to be travelling in June to WDW with my 2.5 and 3.5 year old. We are flying in from Texas, stay at POP, and relying solely on Disney transportation.

Should I bring my own double stroller or just rent one?

I guess my biggest conern is leaving it unattended on rides and then on the busses.

Thank You!

I'd bring your own. I much prefer having my own stroller. We have a double and just returned a few weeks ago. We have been 4 times since my dd was born and have never had anyone bother our stroller. I know stroller theft happens, but it really is pretty rare.

We took our double on the bus with no problems. It's big and yes it can be a pain but it worked fine for us.

We're renting simply because we don't have a double stroller. DS3 has not needed a stroller since right around the time his little brother was born last May, so we never bought a double. However, knowing that he will need it at WDW (very different from a quick walk around the mall), we decided to rent one from A Baby's Best Friend. We considered renting at the parks, but our little guy is only gonna be 14 months old when we go, so it would not be comfy for him to ride in, let alone nap in! The ones at the parks do not recline, they are hard hot plastic.

And hey, I have not even experienced this yet...all stuff I learned here on the DIS! Thanks everyone!

What ever you decide, have a wonderful time!!

When my twins were younger, I brought my own double stroller. For one thing, it was greatly needed in the airport. I noticed you said you were flying. I can't imagine trying to carry them or even have them walk in the airport. Plus carrying a diaper bag, purse, and whatever carry-on you might have. They did have to get out of it to go through security, but then I pushed them right to the gate. Then it was waiting for me when we got off the plane in Orlando.

It was nice too at the resort. I liked having it when we ate at the resort. I liked having it to push them to the bus stops. Yes, it can be a "hassle" to fold up to take on the busses, but still worth it. My husband took care of folding up the stroller and carrying it onto the bus and I had the twins. We had it planned out. I know that sounds funny, but it was necesssary. This is why....

I think that lots of times other guests get impatient when people with strollers aren't ready. I mean I have stayed at POP three times, and I have seen people see that a bus is coming, and they don't start getting their kids out or start folding it up. Then the bus pulls up and people want to get on the bus and they can't because these people are just starting to get their kid/kids out of the stroller. Then they still have to fold it up. I have seen other guests get very mad at these people holding up the lines to get on busses. I have seen the same thing at the parks too.

We never had trouble with our double stroller and the busses. Yes my husband had to stand and hold it, but it was no problem.

As far as leaving your stroller unattended, I never worried about it. I never left anything valuable in it either. I have only heard once about a stroller getting taken and then it was returned when the person that took it only thought it was theirs because it was the same kind of stroller. I have also heard about people who think their stroller was taken, when it was really only moved by a stroller attendent CM. We tried to put something on the handle to easily find our stroller. A few days we used a balloon from POP.

Now last year I rented a double stroller, and this year I will too, but they will have just turned 5. They can walk to and from bus stops and around the resort. We aren't flying either.

The only double I have right now is a Sit and Stand... because my almost 4 year old never wants to ride anyway, except on trips to say the zoo. I am not sure if that would be good for him at Disney or if we would need a place to actually "sit" and rest. I have thought about even if we rent brining the umbrella stroller for the 2 year old in the airport and at the resort. We just won't have one getting from the resorts to the park... hmmm...

hmmm... Walmart as a Side by Side Double for $85 made my Jeep. The review and good and a lot of people specifically said they used it at Disney. I wonder if I should buy a new one. It will cost me that to rent one for a week.

Does it fold fairly small? (For a double I mean :) ) Lightweight? Not that big of a deal on the buses? Sturdy enough etc?

Thanks!

In my opinion, yes it does fold fairly small. It is pretty lightweight too. I think it is pretty sturdy enough. I think it would be great to carry on and off busses. (the double I took the first year is one of those large Graco double strollers :scared1: ) The seats do lay back too. I guess you could go to Walmart and check it out. It doesn't have a place to put things. Well, it does have these small pockets on each side. I managed to put a juice cup, small bag of snacks, and wipes in them. I always put my purse and other bags over the handles. They are also made with some kind of material that doesn't really hold water too much. Which I liked when it rained. It wasn't soaking wet like a typical cloth stroller would get.

I think it would work great!!
