Double post

If they were quick and hard working, we've given the local guys $20 each. Plus (this is something my parents always did) if it crosses over a meal I've always ordered pizza or something for them. It was always appreciated.

We usually tip the local guys between $20-$40 each because they spend one day packing up the house and another day loading the truck. We also provide lunch and drinks.
The driver usually hires another local crew at the destination, we tip these guys about the same because they also unload as well as unpack most of our boxes as well. The driver we tip about $50-75 depending on the distance we move.
All of our moves have been corporate relocations and our tips have been included as part of relocation expenses.

DH and I both thank you guys for the advice. I'm going to the ATM now:D

I am a seasoned mover, have moved 10 times in 18 years due to DH's military career. I am not sure if it is because these are military moves and we don't pay for them, but I have never tipped our movers, nor have I heard of this before. I do however feed the movers and give them beverages. Typically for breakfast I will buy Dunkin Donuts and coffee and for lunch we will order a few pizza and soda. In Italy where we couldn't have fast food we provided pastries and expresso in the AM and for lunch the first day we bought sandwich meat, rolls, chips and caprese salad and the second day we made hot dogs and chips (Italians love american hot dogs, 4 guys ate 24!)

Yup, tip them. It's usually been about $50.

We've used movers for 2 of the moves, and never once tipped them.

I don't think they're paid the same as restaurant staff where their wages are lower and they rely on tips to make up the difference. I don't feel obligated to tip anyone who's simply doing their job.

I don't tip the cashier at the grocery store
I don't tip the bus driver
I don't tip postman
etc.

If they go above and beyond and make your moving experience fabulous and you WANT to thank them monetarily, then my all means do so. I would not however feel obligated to tip them.
