Double jog stroller?

Hi all!

I posted this on the tips board too, but thought I'd get some feedback here as well...

We are going to WDW in Sept for the first time with kids (ages 6 and 3). We originally planned to rent a stroller there, but after thinking about that expense (7 days), figured we would bring the double jog stroller we already own instead and save money. But, after reading some stroller threads here, I get the impression that a double jogger isn't ideal. Can someone tell me why? It seems as if it wouldn't be any bigger/bulkier to push through the parks than the double rental. Plus, we would have a stroller for the trip back to the hotel (Pop) when my littlest one is exhausted.

Can anyone give me any advice?

TIA!

Welcome to the boards! My impression from reading many, many stroller threads is that it is difficult to transport these. If you are flying, you may have to remove the front wheel to check it and you may have to deflate the tires (not sure about that) so check w/your airlines. Also, they may be difficult to collapse to bring on the buses, especially if they are crowded. If you are driving, it may not be as big as a deal. Hope this helps.

They are huge and bulky and take up a lot of room in stores, crowds, etc. Does it fold small enough for the trams? buses? you can sometimes take them on the monorail without folding but if it is crowded you may wait a few trains till there is space. And no I don't want it on my toes in my space, you have to have it on your toes in your space-as the lady on the monorail discovered last yr! (she wanted to park the huge SUV stroller in front of our family on our side of the divide instead of in front of her side and her family) It pays to have a teenage softball catcher in the family, you don't move her when she plants herself.

We never took a stroller for our kids when they were over 4 so I would think your 6 yr old would be fine and take a single for the younger one and then if you REALLY need one for the older rent only when needed. I would never go thru the hassle of dealing with a double jogger in the crowds at Disney for a 6 yr old.

Hi, I would have to agree, a jogging stroller would be too big to transport on the Disney busses. I would definately bring a small stroller with you for your youngest and then when you get to the parks you can "store" your own stoller at one of the Disney stoller rental locations (they give you a ticket) and then pick up a double for your two children to ride in. I know it does get expensive to rent the stollers at Disney, but you can get a length of stay rental pass.

We stayed at pop last year with our then 2 and 4 yr olds. We have a double umbrella stroller and we had many people come up to us with their double joggers and ask us where we got our stroller. The busses can be crowded and you can't fully collapse a double jogger. We are taking our double umbrella again this year but because of weight limits, this will be the last time this stroller travels to disney:sad1: . Next year we will either rent a double or a single and let them take turns.

If you will have a car and not using Disney transportation, a double jogger might work. If you use Disney transportation (buses and some boats), you will have to fold the stroller and carry it. This would be difficult with a double jogger.

I would definitely take a stroller for your 3 yo. We went in January with DD6 and DD2, and DD6 didn't need a stroller. She was on the late side of 6, though. I would have rented if she needed it, but I didn't tell her that! I think that she didn't need one for two reasons...I had conditioned her with walking and we took the afternoon naps.

I tend to agree with one of the other posters - bring a stroller for the 3 yo and rent one for the 6 yo if you find that she needs it.

Enjoy!

With kids those ages, I would do a length of stay rental on a double stroller. Even the three year old should be able to walk enough that you'll be okay without a stroller outside the parks. Mine were 5, 3, and 9 months when we went last September; we didn't bring our own stroller, and we did fine. I used a backpack for the baby until we got to the parks (and, really, most of the time in the parks, since the 5 year old wasn't about to watch his brothers ride without hopping in himself). Of course, a lot of people swear by having their own stroller along....but i like to travel light ;).

I'm having the same dilemma. DS has autism and tires easily, but he is 70-80 lbs. I thought about buying a special needs stroller, they look like the umbrella strollers, but can handle more weight. The problem - they cost over $1,000. I found a company that rents them for $50 a week, but I'm scare something might happen to it. I found a double umbrella stroller by Joovy. It's called the Groovy 2 and it holds more weight than the normal Maclaren strollers. I called the company this morning and they said the maximum weight is 55 lbs, but it could handle more unofficially. It is costly, about $280 and I think it might be worth the investment since we are newly purchased AP holders and we frequent alot of venues in downtown Atlanta.

Just back from WDW and we did take our double jogging stroller. However we stayed off site and didnt have to deal with the buses or other onsite transportation. It did fine on the monorail and was a godsend in the airport and through the parking lot. IMO it didnt take up anymore width than the park double strollers and handled better. My kids are 4 and almost 2 and they both took naps in the stroller (the 2 year old daily, the 4 year old occasionally). Bringing our double jogging stroller was one of the best decisions we made.

Only downside, the grip on the handle was cut in several places on the flight down when we gate checked it. On the way home, I wrapped several plastic bags around the handle to prevent further damage.
