double drop luggage at MCO

Can anyone explain to me how this system operates and can it be avoided.Long time since we've arrived at MCO ( last few times it's been Sanford) and I remember some confusion about luggage being dropped twice on arrival ( picking it up only to place on carousel again)!.Is this still the case?

My mission this year is NOT to do the second luggage drop. You only have to place it on the second carousel if you are not able to take it up the escalator yourself. I have never been able to avoid this as I am a single mom with a child. However she is now 8 and I decided I am going to pack smartly so that she can pull her carry on in a wheeled suitcase (small), mine is a backpack this year to free up my hands and I have packed a smaller suitcase into my large one and will take another small one as well (I like to shop ). I am going to practice this on my staircase at home

The second drop adds about 20 to 30 minutes onto your waiting time when you get to the other terminal. You are allowed to avoid it. The question is whether you will manage it.
