Its the usual "hope I'm posting this in the right place" but.....

About discounts....If you are a Disney Annual Passholder (not Fl resident) and IF they are offering room discounts as they have done in the past like 30 or 40% Off can you also take advantage of free dining IF it is offered at the time of your stay? Or is that too many discounts for Disney to allow together??

Thanks!

You can only get free dining if you pay rack rate (no discounts) for the room. So if you get a really good room rate you need to crunch the numbers and see if it's cheaper to add (and pay for) dining with your room discount or pay the full price for the room and get free dining.

Also note that you need to get park tickets for everyone in the room if you're getting free dining too (it used used to be that you could get a 1 day ticket, but lately it looks like you might be required to get 2 day tickets). This is a bit inconvenient if you have an AP, since you don't have an immediate need for those tickets, but they never expire and you can use them to renew your AP or use on a future trip. But it is an added expense to consider for the 'free' dining.

My husband and I are annual passholders so we have crossed this bridge many times. We are also DVC owners who never have enough points.

You cannot double dip so to speak!!

But here is what we have done.

We just returned from a 6 night stay at Port Orleans using the $500 gift card package offer. You were required to purchase a park ticket but you didn't have to use it.

Our 6 nights at Port Orleans cost us about $2200 but that included counter service dining, 2 6 day tickets that our daughters will use in January and a $500 gift card that we will also use in January.

After we checked in we immediately went to a park and had them remove the tickets off of our room key. I am always afraid that I might throw the room key away. When we did this we were told that we could just upgrade the 6 day ticket that we received to an annual pass in the future.

In the past we have done the same thing when free dining was offered. We are hoping to pick up a package of some sort yet for Food and Wine festival this fall as we need 2 more tickets for January.

Good Luck,
Becky

Just a quick note that you don't need to go to the park to do this. In fact, if you ask when you're checking into the resort they can just put your park tickets on seperate media to start with.

We have been told at Boardwalk and Port Orleans that they do not print paper tickets at the resorts any longer and that you must go to the park.

Not sure if I just had a newer CM or if this is true but that is what we were told last November and just last week at Port Orleans.
