Can my DD, 11, still order off the children's menu without being charged double?

Is this double charging childrens meals business just for those participating in the MYW dining?

We are AP holders with the DDE.

Can we do what we have always done and order a child's meal at a child's price?

Id like to know this too
DS13 will be eating alot of hamburgers if he cant get the childrens chicken strips at least a few times over our 15days

I would go ahead and order off the kids menu and if the server asks the age just explain your child eats very little and a larger meal would be a waste.

I was told less than two weeks ago at Spoodles that anyone over the age of 9 would be double charged for any item ordered off the child's menu.

The problem was that the waitress offered my 19 year old a garden salad off the child menu without providing us with the pricing information.

There have been other posts over the past week with similar experiences in different restaurants for anyone over age 9 being double charged if ordering off the child menu. So I would expect it to be the case more often than not.

I was told information that was completely different from what happened to Carol twice last week. I was told by CMs on the phone that DS10 could still order off of the children's menu if we were not at a buffet without being charged extra. I guess we'll just have to see what happens when we get there!

Double charging will be fine with me if there serve doube portions. Otherwise, it is simply unfair.

There is something seriously unmagial about double charging for the same portion! :sunny:

What about restaurants that allow kids to eat for free or for a price that's obviously way below cost ($1 or $2)? Should they charge adults or kids above the age a price that's appropriate for the food served?

Here's my thing...

DS10 won't want and won't eat a double portion, so it would be pretty silly if they tried to insist on giving him twice the amount of food he actually wants so that he can be charged more! Geez, restaurants are the only times (really, the only times) I DON'T insist that he eats what the adults are eating! One of the things he looks forward to at WDW is a good chicken finger fix, but I don't want him eating a double portion of them!

However, if I am charged double because he's ten, I'll suck it up and pay it. It's DS's vacation too, and he should get to eat what he wants, just as I will. I've said this before, though, I've only got one child. If I had to pay double for more than one, I'd be a bit more put out.

The idea behind inexpensive kid meals is the assumption that they are making a lot on adult meals served at the same time, so the kid meals are "break even" -- read very little profit. I have no problem with Disney charging double to an adult ordering off the kid menu -- they deserve to make a profit and double the amount of food with this would mean they'd still just be breaking even. Worse, they could instead change the rule to say adults can not order off the children's menu, which would mean instead of your chicken finger meal for $11.98 (double the kid's price of about $5.99 or so), you HAVE to order a $20-$25 meal. Which sounds better to the adults who eat off the kids menu -- $11.98 or $20?

That said, I think making a 10-year-old pay double is CRAZY! My 8-year-old nephew eats circles around my 10-year-old niece. I'm sure in time Disney will find better ways of handling this. For now -- it stinks!

Has anyone any updated info. I have scratched off buffets do to the age change. I would order off the adult menu for my 10-11 yo IF I could find something she would like which after reading the menus I am having a tough time (ie Jiko and she is pretty adventurous). I won't pay double for a childrens meal, that is just to over the top. So it maybe a lot of counter service for us....

I just want to know ahead of time. I am not as understanding as other posters if the Spoodles incident would have happen to me it would have not been pretty, just IMHO.

This is our situation as well....if we had more than one child, I'd be really really put out. I don't think it fair but it is ds's vacation, too. My ds knows when he is full and won't eat any more...2x's the portion will be a waste and paying double for it, is ridiculous as well.

We ate dinner at CRT July 1 and were only charged the regular child's menu price for DS11. He was also charged as a child the following morning for the Whispering Canyon all you can eat skillet breakfast. I'm not sure if this was just a courtesy due to the changes being so new or not.

This is the strange part about this new pricing because we had lunch at CRT on July 1st and were told at check-in that our 10 year old will be charged as an adult even if she eats off the child's menu. Our dinner at chef Mickey's, however, she was charged as a child. She was charged as a child at O'hana's too, but as an adult at Norway Princess. These were all character meals so to speak(except O'hana's) so there must be different policies for them.

OK, I have a question regarding older children ordering off the kids menu. What happens if you are on the dining plan? Is this new policy just for people NOT on the dining plan? I'm wondering what will happen when my 13 DS wants to order off the kids' menu at the table service restaurants instead of the adult menu while on the dining plan.

my interpretation was that they will be charged a "TS" but can order off the children's menu. my CM even told me to order off the children's menu for my niece and pay for hers and save the TS for a 2 TS place another day......however, if the child is 9 or under they MUST order off the children's menu if there is one and you are on the dining plan.....she mentioned nothing about double charge... many people also recommended sharing the adult meal with a light eater and saving the TS for another night....
