Dorm Room Safe

My son lives in off campus student housing. He has a private room with a lock. But I still wanted to make sure he had another way to lock stuff up. He has a big locked box that stays in his closet. He usually has his computer on him but it's nice to have the extra security if he needs it.

If the room has a closet with sliding doors, it might be easier to install a lock on the closet. My dad came up with the idea when I was in college (a little more than a decade ago...yikes!). It was a two-piece lock - There was bar that clipped around the side of one of the doors and the lock itself that you slid on the bar and locked. Once the lock was in place, it prevented the doors from opening. It was similar to this lock on Amazon but made for a closet.
