Dora and other characters

We'll be in the Disney area next week and my daughter wants to see Dora and some of the other Nickelodeon characters. Does anyone know where we can find them?? I called Holiday Inn's Nickelodeon Hotel, but you cannot participate in character meals and other events unless you stay at the hotel there.
Any other suggestions?

they use to be at universal - but I think they changed a few years ago.

We just saw Dora this Sept. outside of US gates...she was all alone and DD got lots of time with her. Actually, we saw tons of characters all alone at US because no one was there...and we wished we weren't either!
