Could someone explain what we are allowed to copy, at Staples, and laminate for door magnets? What constitutes copyright infringement? The reason I ask is because salesclerk at Staples have me a hard time over a design I purchased off etsy. Thanks in advance. Btw the offending copy design is a black chalkboard print with things to do while on cruise, hug Mickey, eat, pirate night...it does have Disney Cruise in Disney script written on it and a black mouse head shape on it.

If it's a copyrighted image, unless you have a release from the company that holds the copyright, it cannot be printed by an entity that will profit by printing it.

That said, different printing services seem to have different policies. It seems your local Staples won't print anything that seems like it could be copyrighted. Others do.

But Disney allows these hand laminated magnets on the doors? What about Disney gift bags? Are we allowed to cut out the images and attach magnets and display on doors?

Yes. As long as you're the one doing the printing, and you're not getting any monetary gain for doing it. It's personal use.

If I cut designs out on Disney gift bags, is that ok? I'm only planning on using them if they turn out decent. There are some super cute gift bags available. Thanks for hanging in here with me on this thread

Yes, that is fine as long as you are not creating them for re-sale. Personal use is fine! Happy cruising :)

I had over 50 magnets for our cruise with different Disney characters and themes. When they asked me at Staples, I just told them it was for personal use only...and then they printed all of it.

What one Staples allows might be different than what a different Staples allows. OP, it doesn't sound to me like there is any copyright infringement here, but the employee at Staples might have been afraid of getting in trouble. I would go back and ask them to do it again and explain that these are for personal use only.

FWIW, I print graphics out myself and use the self-adhesive laminating sheets to make magnets for ourselves. That way I don't have to worry about what someone will or won't print. And as long as none of the magnets contain any offensive language or graphics, the DCL employees don't care. No one is going down the hall to look for copyright infringement.

So a person can use pics that might be copyrighted by another company? My kids love minions. Can I put a minion with Disney ears on my door?
