Hi everyone...I have seen some wonderful door decorations and I think that my kids would love to have one on our door. I am a police officer and not very crafty, so I was wondering if I could pay someone to make us a neat door magnet??? I would be cool if the kids thought that Mickey and Minnie put it on there!! We are on the August 28th western!!! :scratchin :scratchin

My husband is a P.O. as well and he's not crafty either...hmmmm maybe something to do with the profession.

Only kidding....I know Verandah man made some great door signs but only he can say if he is willing to make some for you.

Good luck with your quest.

I've done something really simple for our 7/17 cruise. I got the idea from soneone on these boards. Go to Home Depot and get some of the Disney paint samples. I got a bunch of different colors. Cut the outline of the Mickey face, put the names of everyone in your party on them (I used first names) and laminate them. (You could also use clear contact paper.) You can buy magnetic tape, which can be cut to fit. You now have Mickey name tags which you can place on your cabin door.

Sue, I love it!! What a clever idea!!

The kids could each place their own magnet where they wanted it.

The Mickey logos could be chosen by favorite colors! If I did my family, DH would be royal blue as would DS#1. DS#2 would be kelly green. Mine, of course, purple.

We are on the same cruise. If you go to the August 28 thread, you will see MORANCLAN is making magnets for us.
Ask him to add your family name. All he is asking for payment is to buy him a drink sometime during that week. Feel free to write on that thread. The people that we are sailing with have been real friendly.

See you in August

what other kinds of things do people do to decorate their doors/cabins?

Is there any rule about how big decorations can be?

What about using tape on the door is that allowed?

Having a birthday celebration and want to know if we could use crepe paper or streamers etc.

Any rules about what can be put up in the cabin?

Hi JC Butterfly - there are no rules as far as I know on the size of decorations. Last year I bought the lime green Mickey paint samples at Home Depot and wrote each person's name on one. Then I cut out big lime green letters that spelled out DIS, and I also bought lime green curly ribbon. I taped everything to the cabin door with double-sided tape. The tape came right off at the end of the week without leaving any residue. It was very festive and it was very easy to find our cabin!

My kids are doing ours out of Fun Foam. (walmart craft department) I bought 2 9x11 sheets some stick on magnets and some glow in the dark stickers. We will put our names and the year. They are not perfect but so cute because they did them.:teeth:

All the stateroom doors are metal and painted white. Magnets will work fine. Also, there is usually a clip just to the side of the door shaped like a brass fish. Its so decorative, we didn't know it was a clip until we received a thank you note from our waiter at Palo.

We just got back from our Wonder cruise and I had made a door magnet to take along. I just used a piece of poster board, glued on some pictures from a WDW and DCL brochure I had. Put our pictures on the Home Depot Mickey Heads, added our names and the date we cruised, and tied lime green ribbons on the corners. We hung it up with magnetic disks I bought at Wal Mart and glued to the back of the sign. It worked great!!

It really helped our DGD (3) find our room when she ran down the hall ahead of us!! Our neighboring cabin said they really appreciated it too!! I did not see any other door decorations anywhere else on the ship!! It was a little disappointing!!:(

We had lots of CMs stop us and comment on our sign. I am glad we made one. I let my DGD help make it and it holds some special memories for me. You can be as creative as you want. Some folks are nervous about putting their names on the sign, but I had no problem with it. Others on the boards say they have had a problem with people stealing their signs. I think the more personal they are, the less likely they will be stolen.

Have fun designing your door sign. Please share your finished project with all of us!!

I would stick to just using magnets...I could see DCL having a problem if many people started using tape...not all tape comes off cleanly and what a mess the doors would be in if they had that sticky residue on them. No need to give the room stewards extra work!! They need time to make those great towel animals!!!

I found an old wallpaper book with a nautical Mickey in it. I've tried searching the web for it but have been unsuccessful. I took an overhead transparency and traced it. I photocopied several for my children to color and I enlarged one to make a poster for my parents' door (it's their 40th anniversary).

I'm not too computer savy but I'll try to have my dad scan it and I'll post it somewhere here if we're successful.

Great idea Suzy Mouse! Wall paper stores will give away old books they are finished with if you ask too! I am going to add the little Mickey heads from Home Depot to our sign too.
