Does anyone know what kind of mix this takes? Can you use cake mix or make your own? The gift for DH is wrapped under the tree and I forgot to look. Hopefully I can use something inexpensive. DH likes to make pancakes on Sunday morning and I thought this would be fun for him!;) He would want something easy.

I just use regular cake mix following the package directions. I've also made pancake batter and used that in the cake pop maker. I rolled the pancake balls in cinnamon and sugar as soon as they came out and they were SO good! My girls were thrilled! You can make your own mix too, I like to make my own donut hole mix. My DD and I are gluten free and I use the cake pop maker to make her donut holes and other little goodies all the time.

Don't open it. Unwrap it and return it. I bought it last year. Biggest mistake. Takes a special recipe and it's a pain to make as are the donuts. The batter has to be spooned in in very small quantities and it's very thin so it's easy to spill and get all over the maker. The donuts are thin and tiny and not at all like those you'd buy at a donut store - and very very unappetizing (okay, the taste was just nasty ) we ended up making a second breakfast that day.
