Don't you just *hate* renewing your drivers license?

I don't know why I hate it so much. We have a beautiful new building less than a mile from me. The wait is usually pretty short. Not like the "old days" when I first moved to this state and it always took at LEAST an hour. You had to stand in line, no places to sit.

I did mine yesterday. My new license doen't expire until **2010**. Man, that sounds like "forever" doesn't it?! But I know, before I blink, I'll get that "dreaded" card in the mail telling me "it's time"! ;)

2010 does seem so far away! Scary to think it's really only 5 1/2 years away.

I haven't set foot in a DMV in forever. I renew everything online. Man, I love the internet.

2010? Wow!! We have to renew ours every 4 years here in Michigan. :( In fact, I just got my notice a few days ago that I have to renew. I was hoping I could do it by mail, but I guess I did that last time as this time I have to do it in person. I always hate the test they give you, and having my picture taken, yuck!!
And paying the $18 fee....*grumble grumble grumble*.....

I hate it too! Mine is due for renewal next month too. I do my license plate tabs online, but we cannot do our drivers license online, because you have to take the eye test and the photo, YUCK!

Not anymore. Used to be you could wait for 2 or more hours at the DMV-slow computers, slow employees, slow paperwork. But when I renewed my DL in January at the new and improved DMV, I was outta there in 15 minutes, including my slowness in filling out the papers and getting my picture taken! Couldn't believe it.. Two bonuses-1) The day I went in, I just happened to be at my all time lowest weight for 10 years..So I got to put that on the DL! 2) The DL is good for 10 years!! It was a pleasant experience all around.:)

My renewal is coming up too, and yes, I dread it! LOL So far I've been lucky with my photos and I'm always scared of what they'll turn out to look like!

I hate it, too. I just renewed mine in January. Such a pain.

I just renewed mine by mail. I get to keep my same photo from 4 years ago for 8 more years. I'll be 29 forever :teeth:

I usually do everything online. This last time I did go in though. My picture was 12 yrs old and looked nothing like me. So, I went in and had a new pic taken. Truthfully, I was in and out in 20 minutes....can't complain about that.

What I hate about renewing is that it usually means jury duty looms on the horizon. Thankfully, they excused me last time because I had 3 toddler/preschool kids.

IL (at least around Chicagoland) has greatly improved over the past decade. Now if you have no tickets or accidents, you can renew by mail/phone on alternate renewals (keeping the same license for 8 years). The last time I had to go into the facility to renew, the whole process was over in less than 20 min. It used to be over 2 hours!

The worst part is having the picture taken. No matter how hard I try, I still come out looking like a CONVICT or half-asleep! :o

I don't hate it anymore - I did it on-line. It took about 5 minutes, and the new license arrived less than a week later.

Precisely why I am driving around with a license that expired last week!! Gotta get to it SOON..................P

I know what you mean. I just got my renewals forms in the mail the other day. Dreading going to the DMV!!!

Wow! only $18, our's is $65.

Wish we could do our's on-line or by mail.....

I'm dreading doing this soon too! I have to try to get back down to that weight listed on my license! How many states have weight on there still? I hate that!

I don't mind renewing. I like having a new picture every few years, and if I don't want to mess with it I can just renew online :). I love the internet.

I just moved to a different state in March and got my license in April. A friend of mine told me to be prepared to waste a lot of time at DMV. Actually, it wasn't too bad! Must have gone at the right time. Hey! My picture now resembles me! LOL! My pic on my FL license was about 12 years old. And my hair was really short! Of course, they made me get that stupid look on my face. LOL! It must be a pre-requisite for all drivers' licenses! I'll be renewing it online when it's time.

Here in PA, you need a new photo every 4 years. It usually isn't too bad if you have the paid photo card in hand when you go into the DMV. When I went in January, the line was a mile long, I got a number. Then I saw a sign saying if you already had a photo card, don't take a number, go straight to another desk. I walked over there and got my new license in less than 5 min!

Last time I had to renew my license (this past summer), I had to wait a little longer because I was also taking the test for a chauffer's license. (in MI, if you want to drive a commercial vehicle ... delivery van, pizza driver, etc, you must have a chauffer's license, unless the vehicle you're driving is big enough to require a CDL).

In the process of getting the chauffer's license, I encountered a (minor) glitch in the Secretary of State (why it's not called the DMV, I have no idea) computer system. Michigan has switched to vertical-format licenses for those that are under 21. However, the chauffer's license is not setup to print in a vertical format. Since I was under 21 (turning 21 in 3 weeks, but I was going to be out of state, so I had to renew early), they couldn't print me a non-vertical license. Eventually, they decided to print me a temporary paper license, and mail me the plastic one (horizontal-format) after my 21st bday. I was a little skeptical that I'd actually get it, but I did, and all was well.
